Shri Mohit Bhargava has been appointed Country Director at the India Energy & Climate Center (IECC), Goldman School of Public Policy, UC Berkeley, where he will bridge rigorous research with practical climate policies.

A veteran with over 35 years of sector expertise, Shri Bhargava’s monumental contribution lies in architecting India’s clean energy landscape. As the founding CEO of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Executive Director (RE) at NTPC, he spearheaded an unprecedented transition—astronomically scaling NTPC’s renewable energy pipeline from a modest 1 GW to over 25 GW within just 55 months.

Further cementing his leadership, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently nominated him as a Green Hydrogen Expert to the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s Empowered Group. His deep operational experience with utility-scale frameworks makes him uniquely suited to drive global climate policy integration from the ground up.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the rapid evolution of India’s power sector, describing it as a robust ecosystem essential for achieving a Viksit Bharat. Sharing an article by Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the Prime Minister highlighted how strategic energy policies are successfully meeting the country’s future needs while creating a sustainable atmosphere. He noted that the shift from chronic power shortages to becoming a global energy leader reflects a decade of disciplined policy implementation and growth.

The Prime Minister’s observations come at a time when India has nearly doubled its electricity generation since 2014, reaching 1,830 billion units in 2025. Significant milestones include reducing energy shortages from 4.2 percent to a near-negligible 0.03 percent and successfully managing a massive national grid under the One Nation, One Grid, One Frequency system. This infrastructure now supports a record installed capacity of over 520 GW, ensuring that even peak demands are met without major disruptions across the country.

Looking toward a sustainable future, the Prime Minister’s endorsed vision emphasizes a strong push for clean energy, including the National Green Hydrogen Mission and an ambitious goal of 100 GW of nuclear power by 2047. Through digital reforms like smart metering and expanded renewable capacity, the government aims to maintain a reliable power supply for emerging needs like data centers. To further this dialogue, stakeholders are invited to the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 in New Delhi to collaborate on grid modernization and next-generation infrastructure.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched a nationwide logo design contest for the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), inviting all Indian citizens to participate. The initiative aims to engage creative minds in developing a logo that symbolizes India’s vision to become a global hub for green hydrogen production, usage, and export. The mission focuses on accelerating the decarbonisation of the economy, reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports, and promoting innovation and investment in green hydrogen technology across sectors like steel, transport, fertilizers, shipping, and petrochemicals.

Participants must submit original, high-quality designs in JPEG, PNG, or PDF formats (minimum 300 DPI, 15cm x 20cm) that capture the essence of sustainability, self-reliance, and clean energy. Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, simplicity, and relevance to NGHM’s goals. The winner will receive a ₹1,00,000 cash prize, a certificate of recognition, and reimbursement for domestic airfare to New Delhi, while ten runners-up will get ₹5,000 each. The last date for submission is November 5, 2025, and entries can be uploaded via the **MyGov portal** at [mygov.in](https://www.mygov.in/task/logo-design-contest-national-green-hydrogen-mission/).
