Shri Rajesh Kumar Chandel has officially assumed charge as Director (Projects) of SJVN, a prominent Navratna CPSE, receiving warm congratulations from CMD Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director (Personnel) Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma, and other senior officials. Bringing over 35 years of robust power sector experience with a core specialization in hydro power, Shri Chandel has a proven track record in project conceptualization, strategic planning, execution, monitoring, and international coordination across India, Nepal, and Bhutan.

His distinguished career includes serving as OSD to the CMD, heading major wholly owned subsidiaries in Nepal to oversee the 900 MW Arun-3 and 669 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Projects, commissioning the 1020 MW project in Bhutan as MD of PHPA-II, and leading the 66 MW Dhaulasidh Project in India. An expert in handling complex engineering tasks, his technical journey highlights nearly eight years dedicated to constructing the Head Race Tunnel for the landmark 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station, alongside versatile corporate leadership roles since joining SJVN in 1994.

SHIMLA. SJVN’s Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station recently partnered with the National Dam Safety Authority to host a major safety and disaster awareness program in Jhakri. Opened by local and national officials, the event brought together experts from top organizations like ISRO and the NDRF to teach local residents about flood management, weather tracking, and emergency readiness. The program gave downstream villagers a chance to share their safety concerns, while local students joined the effort through an awareness march, tree-planting campaign, and educational skits on disaster safety.

On occasion, Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), SJVN said that this initiative underscored the importance of coordinated stakeholder engagement, public awareness and environmental responsibility in fostering culture of dam safety.

The awareness program was inaugurated by Dr. Amit Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur and Sh. Saurabh Agarwal, Member (Admin & Finance) NDSA.

SJVN’s Power Stations break Records in Power Generation.

SJVN have set new benchmarks in energy generation with the achieving of all time high monthly energy generation of 1590 million units has been clocked in from all power stations in August 2023. This is a 9% increase in generation from last year.

In addition to this, highest energy generation for August month has been registered by 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station and 50 MW Sadla Wind Power Station with 1215.326 million units and 15.938 million units respectively during the current fiscal.
