Bengaluru, 15th September 2025: ClearTax, India’s leading tax filing platform, today announced that nearly 50,000 individuals have filed their Income Tax Returns using ClearTax AI in non-English Indian languages within weeks of its multilingual rollout.

As part of its wider impact, 8% of the country’s 9.3 cr total taxpayers have filed with ClearTax at some point, while 22% of India’s total taxpayers are currently registered with ClearTax. In 2024 alone, India added 58.57 lakh new taxpayers, with 4% onboarded through ClearTax’s WhatsApp AI. ClearTax also remains the go-to destination for tax education and support, with 60% of India’s tax filers visiting its knowledge base.

Launched in July 2025, ClearTax AI is the country’s first personal AI-powered tax assistant that enables users to file their returns simply by chatting in their preferred language. The assistant currently supports six regional languages — Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Bangla. This adoption surge highlights the strong demand for regional language-first solutions that address India’s diverse linguistic and digital literacy needs.

The platform’s rapid uptake has underscored two key trends:

●      Regional adoption: A large proportion of the 50,000 multilingual filings originated from Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns, where language barriers have traditionally prevented taxpayers from filing independently.

●      First-time filers: Many users completed their returns digitally on their own for the first time, reflecting growing confidence in AI-driven, language-inclusive tools.

ClearTax AI simplifies the entire process by automatically fetching up to 95% of the required data from the Income Tax Department, applying all eligible deductions, selecting the correct ITR form, and providing instant guidance in plain language. Users simply enter their PAN and the assistant completes the rest  all within minutes, across platforms such as WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, Slack, and the ClearTax website.

ClearTax’s long-term ambition is to onboard 1 crore new tax filers over the coming years, contributing to a more financially included and digitally confident India.
