The fugitive businessman MEHUL CHOKSI has allegedly spent huge money on the opposition leaders in Dominica and influenced them. Opposition leader Lennox Linton has written a letter to the government of Dominica that Choksi should be handed over to Antigua.

It is believed that Choksi has managed Lennox Linton to write a letter to the Dominican government. The letter comes after reports emerged that Choksi’s brother had long meeting with opposition leader a week ago.

“The justice systems of Antigua and Dominica are under the jurisdiction of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC). His alleged misdemeanours in India notwithstanding, it is crime against humanity to violently remove Mr Choksi from his constitutional rights and rule of law protection in one part of the ECSC jurisdiction to another part for the benefit of those who want to short-circuit the extradition proceedings for his return to India,” the letter of the opposition leader reads.

Dominica has two opposition MPs and 19 are from the government. Opposition leader Linton demanded that Choksi should be handed over to Antigua. “It is time to stop this unnecessary scandal in Dominica’s international affairs and that simply means ending the court matters in Dominica with a consent order by Mehul Choksi and his Dominican prosecutors that he is returned to Antigua and Barbuda without further delay,” the letter adds.

The Income Tax Department conducted a search & seizure action based on credible intelligence on 08.10.2020 at Ahmedabad in the case of a group engaged in the businesses of real estate, construction and land trading. Search was conducted at 27 premises, which included offices and residences of some associates also.

During the search unexplained cash of around Rs. 69 lakh and jewellery of around Rs. 82 lakh have been seized till now. Besides, 18 bank lockers have been found and placed under restraint. A large number of incriminating documents and digital data in mobile phones, pen-drives and computers have also been found and seized.

The group had around 96 companies at a few common addresses, which were being used for routing money and for land holding. Most of the companies are found to have no real business and very few returns of income have been filed. Many have not filed returns with ROC. Some directors of these concerns, other than main family members, have accepted to be dummy directors with mere signing roles.

Innovative methods of tax evasion by increasing the cost of properties through intra-group transactions, on which tax is not paid, have been noticed. Substantial evidences of transactions outside the regular books of accounts, unaccounted cash expenses, and cash advances received and interest paid in cash have been found. Evidences of on-money transactions and corresponding unaccounted investments of about Rs. 100 crore in real estate projects-flats, shops and land deals have been found.

A large number of documents relating to properties, held in the names of several cooperative societies, have been found from a secret location. The real owners of these land holdings are being investigated and applicability of the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988 is also being examined. Registered and notarized sale-purchase agreements of agricultural lands with substantial cash component have also been found. At one of the premises, evidences pertaining to unaccounted property transactions uptoRs. 150 crore have been found.

Further investigations are in progress.

Fugitive industrialist Vijay Mallya asked the government to accept his offer to repay 100 per cent of his loan dues and close case against him.

While congratulating the Indian government over the Rs 20 lakh crore economic package, Vijay Mallya lamented that his repeated offers to repay his dues have been ignored.

“Congratulations to the Government for a COVID-19 relief package. They can print as much currency as they want BUT should a small contributor like me who offers 100% payback of State-owned Bank loans be constantly ignored?” he said in a tweet.

Congratulations to the Government for a Covid 19 relief package. They can print as much currency as they want BUT should a small contributor like me who offers 100% payback of State owned Bank loans be constantly ignored ? Please take my money unconditionally and close.

Vijay Mallya, promoter of the defunct Kingfisher Airlines, who is wanted in India over alleged fraud and money laundering charges amounting to estimated Rs 9,000 crore, added, “Please take my money unconditionally and close.”

Earlier this month, Vijay Mallya had filed an appeal in the UK Supreme Court after losing an appeal in the London High Court against an extradition order to India on alleged charges of fraud and money laundering related to unrecovered loans to Kingfisher Airlines.

In the past, Vijay Mallya had tweeted that he had offered to pay 100 per cent of the amount borrowed by Kingfisher Airlines to the banks but neither banks were willing to take the money nor the Enforcement Directorate was willing to release his attached assets at the behest of the banks.

In a Twitter post, the private sector lender said: “Visit any of our 1,132 branches from Mar 19, 2020, post commencement of banking hours to experience our suite of services.” The development comes as a group of lenders led by the country’s largest bank, State Bank of India (SBI), committed to pick stake in Yes Bank as part of a government-backed rescue plan for the troubled private sector lender.

“You will also be able to access all our digital services & platforms,” Yes Bank said on Monday.

Yes Bank customers had been facing a tough time in accessing internet banking, using payment via UPI and withdrawing from ATMs after the RBI’s sudden announcement to curb withdrawals led to a scramble to withdraw money.

Earlier this month, the RBI placed Yes Bank under a moratorium till April 3 following deterioration in the bank’s financial position, and took control of its board. The central bank restricted withdrawals from Yes Bank accounts at Rs 50,000 with few exceptions.

On Friday, the Union Cabinet approved a reconstruction scheme for Yes Bank, as proposed by the RBI.

As part of the RBI-backed rescue plan for the troubled private sector lender, SBI will pick up to 49 per cent in Yes Bank. Yes Bank’s authorised share capital will be revised upwards from Rs 1,100 crore to Rs 6,200 crore.

Besides SBI, several banks and financial institutions including ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and HDFC have committed to pick stakes in Yes Bank.

Amrapali Group entered into “sham agreements” with firms promoted by cricketer MS Dhoni and his wife, Sakshi, to divert homebuyers’ money, the Supreme Court has said.

Amrapali’s “arrangement” with Rhiti Sports Management Private Limited and Amrapali Mahi Developers Private Limited came to light during a forensic audit ordered by the top court of the real estate developer in 2018.

The Amrapali Group of Companies paid Rs 42.22 crore to Rhiti Sports Management Private Limited between 2009 and 2015, the court was told. Of the sum, Rs 6.52 crore was paid by Amrapali Sapphire Developers Private Limited. While Dhoni, also known as Mahi, has a major stake in Rhiti Sport, Sakshi is a director of Amrapali Mahi. Dhoni was a brand ambassador for the group until three years ago.

The audit showed that agreements made for “payment of amounts to Rhiti Sports Management Private Limited Company are sham agreements and made just for making payments to Rhiti Sports Management Private Limited. We feel that homebuyers money has been diverted illegally and wrongly to Rhiti Sports Management Private Limited and should be recovered from them as the said agreement in our opinion do not stand the test of law”, justices Arun Mishra and UU Lalit said in a 270-page order.

Amrapali Mahi Developers Pvt Ltd received share capital in cash and all expenses were paid in cash, the audit report said.

Dhoni, husband of Sakshi Singh Dhoni (director of company), was the brand ambassador of Amrapali Group. Dhoni carried out a number of transactions with respect to endorsement of the group’s projects. He entered into agreements with other group companies, the audit report submitted by Pawan Kumar Aggarwal and Ravinder Bhatia said.

Meanwhile, Rhiti Group has clarified that the observations mentioned in “forensic report (only) are bereft of proper information or relevant documents. The company has been in possession of all information and relevant documents that can establish the clean image and that the observations made in the said report are incorrect.”
