The Ministry of Power today announced the release of Version 0.3 of the India Energy Stack (IES) Architecture and Strategy documents, marking another step in the development of a digital public infrastructure for India’s power sector.

The India Energy Stack aims to create a common digital framework that helps different stakeholders — including utilities, system operators, market participants, innovators, and consumers — securely exchange data and interact using shared standards and protocols. This approach is intended to improve coordination, transparency, and efficiency across the energy ecosystem.

The updated Version 0.3 documents reflect ongoing work to design, test, and refine the framework through phased development and consultation. The IES initiative is being advanced through ecosystem collaboration, pilot implementation, and eventual national rollout to support a more reliable, flexible, and future-ready power system.

Importantly, the India Energy Stack is expected to benefit consumers and prosumers by giving them greater control and participation in the energy ecosystem. Through consent-based data sharing and interoperable digital services, consumers can access improved energy services, compare offerings, and participate in programmes such as demand response or EV charging. Prosumers — who both produce and consume electricity — can more easily monetise surplus energy, verify transactions, and engage in energy markets. By enabling trusted measurement, verification, and settlement at scale, the framework can help households, businesses, and community groups participate confidently and benefit economically from their energy choices.

The meeting reviewing Version 0.3 was attended by Taskforce Chairman Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma (Former Director General, UIDAI; Former CEO, National Health Authority; Former Chairman, TRAI); Sh. Pradeep Kumar Pujari (Vice Chair, Distinguished Fellow, FSR Global; Former Chairman, CERC; Former Secretary, Power); Sh. Pramod Verma (Co-founder, FIDE; Former Chief Architect, Aadhaar); Shri Abhishek Ranjan (CEO, BRPL); Shri Vikram Gandotra (President-Elect, IEEMA); Shri Vikram Dhaka (Representative, MNRE); Shri Swetha Ravi Kumar (Executive Director, FSR Global); Dr. Rahul Tongia (Senior Fellow, CSEP); Shri Reji Pillai (President, ISGF); and Shri Pranav Tayal (Director, Ministry of Power), among other dignitaries.

The initiative is steered by REC Limited as the Nodal Agency, working closely with the Ministry of Power and supported by FSR Global as the Knowledge Partner.

The India Energy Stack (IES) project is scheduled to be completed by July 2026.

New Delhi, December 19, 2025: The second meeting of the India Energy Stack (IES) Taskforce was held today, with participation from Taskforce members as well as representatives from the Ministry of Power, regulators, industry, academia, and other key stakeholders.

The meeting reviewed the Version 0.2 drafts of the IES Strategy and Architecture documents, which have been developed based on the guidance provided during the inaugural meeting convened by the Ministry of Power. At the previous meeting, the Taskforce had aligned on the vision of IES as India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the power sector, with a strong emphasis on modularity, interoperability, standards-led design, and real-world implement ability.

Version 0.2 of the Strategy document strengthens the focus on execution by proposing the development of IES through complete “use case packages.” It introduces a structured rubric for prioritising early use cases, maps existing national digital platforms relevant to the power sector, and outlines a strengthened data governance framework, including the rationale for a National Power Sector Data Policy.

The meeting was attended by Taskforce Chairman Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma (Former Director General, UIDAI; Former CEO, National Health Authority; Former Chairman, TRAI); Sh. Pradeep Kumar Pujari (Vice Chair, Distinguished Fellow, FSR Global, Former Chairman CERC, Former Secretary Power); Sh. Pramod Verma (Co-founder, FIDE; former Chief Architect, Aadhaar); Shri Alok Kumar (DG, AIDA); Shri Jitendra Srivastava (CMD, REC Limited); Shri Abhishek Ranjan (CEO, BRPL); Shri Vikram Gandotra (President-Elect, IEEMA); Shri Vikram Dhaka (Representative, MNRE); Shri Swetha Ravi Kumar (Executive Director, FSR Global); Dr. Rahul Tongia (Senior Fellow, CSEP); Shri Reji Pillai (President, ISGF); and Shri Pranav Tayal (Director, Ministry of Power). Other dignitaries also joined the meeting via video conference.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Jitendra Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director, REC Limited, said, “The India Energy Stack represents a transformational step towards building a unified, trusted, and future-ready digital foundation for India’s power sector. Version 0.2 reflects the Taskforce’s collective wisdom and a strong shift from concept to execution. As the Nodal Agency, REC is committed to working closely with the Ministry of Power and all stakeholders to translate this vision into implementable standards and scalable solutions that deliver tangible value on the ground.”

The Architecture document Version 0.2 sharpens the focus on the trust and security fabric of IES. Key elements include digital identity, verifiable credentials, secure APIs, auditability, and policy-as-code to ensure consistent rule enforcement. These are supported by sandboxes, reference implementations, and defined conformance pathways to accelerate ecosystem adoption. As part of the accelerator programme to demonstrate practical implementation, pilot DISCOMs have been requested to adopt and implement inter-state peer-to-peer (P2P) power trading using the defined APIs and specifications.

The India Energy Stack (IES) project is scheduled to be completed by July 2026.

NEW DELHI. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) East Vinod Nagar Metro Station on the Pink Line has been conferred the *Best Performing Unit Award in the Metro Stations sector* under the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2025. The award was presented by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Vigyan Bhawan on National Energy Conservation Day, and was received by Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, selected the station after a rigorous evaluation of entries from metro rail systems across the country.

The recognition was earned due to the station’s consistent reduction in electrical energy consumption and Energy Performance Index (EPI) over the past three financial years, achieved through regular energy monitoring and targeted conservation measures. Key initiatives include retrofitting conventional tube lights with energy-efficient LED fixtures and the installation of a 150 kWp rooftop solar plant, which meets nearly 49 per cent of the station’s total energy requirement. Additionally, the station holds a “Platinum” rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), underscoring DMRC’s continued commitment to energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and sustainable urban mobility.
