The Ministry’s remarks came amid recent reports of coal supply-related power shortages in Uttar Pradesh. However, it said that as of September 15, 2026, none of UPRVUNL’s thermal power plants was in the critical-stock category, with coal stocks rising from 7.25 lakh tonnes on September 1 to 8.41 lakh tonnes on September 15. During the preceding seven days, average daily coal receipts stood at around 0.90 lakh tonnes against consumption of approximately 0.83 lakh tonnes, while Coal India Limited (CIL) supplied an average of about 17.7 rakes per day over the preceding 10 days. The Ministry also pointed to unloading constraints at some UPRVUNL plants, which can restrict rake placement and further stock augmentation. With the current-month plant load factor at around 48%, it said lower generation cannot be attributed solely to inadequate coal availability and called for operational constraints at generating stations to be addressed alongside faster development of the Saharpur Jamarpani block.

The Special Campaign 5.0, held from October 2nd last year to August 31st this year reinforced a strong commitment to cleanliness, waste management, and environmental responsibility. CIL’s Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojna, implemented in coordination with Thalassemics India across four phases with a total outlay of Rs 130 crore, provides financial assistance of up to Rs 10 lakh per patient directly to empanelled hospitals for bone marrow procedures. Complementing this, CIL’s pediatric cardiac program in partnership with Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust has screened over two lakh children using advanced diagnostic tools across mining belts, providing completely free surgeries alongside travel and hospitalization coverage. Spearheaded by CIL subsidiaries SECL, CCL, NCL, and WCL, these programs reflect a shift toward outcome-driven CSR that delivers direct health benefits to vulnerable families in coal-mining regions.

Marking Coal India’s “Year of Reform and Transform,” Shri Dutt also launched several digital portals and dashboards focused on employee welfare and customer-centric services, including the CIL MedEX Portal, CIL Swasth Portal, Third-Party Sampling Agreement Portal, Landed Price Dashboard and Consumer Portal.

The occasion was attended by Shri B. Sairam, Chairman, Coal India; Shri Sanjeev Kumar Kassi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Coal; Director (Marketing & HR – Additional Charge) Shri Mukesh Choudhary; Director (Finance) Shri Mukesh Agrawal; Director (Technical) Shri Achyut Ghatak; Director (Business Development) Shri Asheesh Kumar; CVO Shri Brajesh Kumar Tripathy; CMDs of subsidiaries and other senior executives.

Through this initiative, the government is actively offering financial incentives and policy support to promote the conversion of coal into valuable resources like chemicals, methanol, and Synthetic Natural Gas.

Commending the achievement, CMD Harish Duhan stated that the award reflects SECL’s balanced commitment to both environmental conservation and national energy security. He emphasized that while SECL continues to adopt safe, technology-driven, and eco-friendly mining methods, it remains dedicated to fulfilling India’s growing energy requirements through efficient operations.
