The Ministry of Coal, in collaboration with FICCI, organized the 2nd Roadshow on Coal Gasification in New Delhi, following the success of the first edition in Mumbai. The event highlighted the government’s vision of adopting cleaner and more sustainable coal utilization technologies to reduce imports, foster innovation, and strengthen India’s energy security. Senior officials, including Ms. Rupinder Brar and Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha, emphasized coal’s role as the backbone of India’s energy mix, powering nearly 70% of electricity generation, while underlining the potential of gasification to drive sustainable and self-reliant growth.

In her keynote address, Ms. Rupinder Brar stressed that coal remains critical to India’s energy landscape, with production already crossing 1 billion tonnes. She noted that advanced gasification technologies can reduce environmental impacts, create new industries, and accelerate India’s growth toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy. Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha further highlighted the government’s Coal Gasification Mission (2020), targeting 100 million tonnes by 2030, and called for greater private sector participation to drive innovation, investments, and industrial growth through gasification projects.

Industry leaders, including Shri Subhrakant Panda from FICCI, also underscored the strategic importance of coal gasification in reducing dependency on natural gas, methanol, and ammonia imports, while enabling production of clean fuels and fertilizers. The roadshow featured technical presentations on surface and underground coal gasification, bidding processes, and investment opportunities. The event reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, sustainability, and stakeholder collaboration in building an Atmanirbhar Bharat through advanced coal technologies.
