NEW DELHI. The Airports Authority of India has signed an agreement with Airports Council International to implement the Airports Management Professional Accreditation Program in India, aimed at strengthening leadership and governance in the aviation sector. AAI said the collaboration reflects India’s commitment to global standards in airport management and marks an important step in building institutional capacity as the country’s aviation sector expands rapidly.

Under the agreement, AAI will facilitate AMPAP training for more than 115 airport professionals over the next five years. On successful completion of the programme, participants will earn the internationally recognised International Aviation Professional designation. Globally, over 1,400 professionals from 120 countries have received this accreditation, with 173 already from India, positioning the country as an emerging contributor to global aviation leadership.

The agreement was formally exchanged between AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar and Gurjit Gill, Director (Global), Airports Council International and ICAO, in the presence of Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and senior officials during Wings India 2026 at Begumpet Airport on January 29.

An official from the Ministry of Civil Aviation visited Kolkata Airport today to review passenger facilitation at key touchpoints, including airline counters, queue management and baggage handling. Passengers confirmed receiving timely updates on flight cancellations, with no congestion observed across terminals, and the baggage backlog reported to be almost fully cleared. The review noted strong coordination among AAI, CISF, the airport operator and airline teams, which has helped stabilise operations. Further improvements were advised in call centre responsiveness and faster grievance redressal, particularly for refund-related issues.

The ministry official also reviewed service readiness at Guwahati Airport to ensure smooth facilitation for travellers. All operational zones, including check-in, security and boarding, remained congestion-free, with airport teams proactively assisting passengers and responding swiftly to queries.

The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has decided not to recommend any candidate for the post of Member (Operations) at the Airports Authority of India (AAI), a key Schedule ‘A’ position under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

PESB conducted interviews to select a suitable candidate for the Schedule ‘A’ position of Member (Operations), one of the key leadership roles in AAI responsible for overseeing operational efficiency and management across India’s airports.

Despite the wide range of experience among the contenders, the Board, after deliberations, did not find any candidate suitable for recommendation to the post at this stage.

The PESB has advised the Ministry of Civil Aviation to take an appropriate course of further action for filling up the position. This could include initiating a process through a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) or another suitable method with the approval of the competent authority.

A total of twelve senior officials from the Airports Authority of India appeared before the selection committee.

Ministry of Civil Aviation today said that the Regional Connectivity Scheme -Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) has facilitated over 1.56 crore passengers through 3.23 lakh flights in nine years. UDAN scheme was launched on 21st October 2016 under the National Civil Aviation Policy. Under the scheme, 649 routes have been operationalized connecting 93 unserved and underserved airports, including 15 heliports and 2 water aerodromes.

Addressing an event in New Delhi organised to mark the 9th anniversary of the scheme, Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha highlighted that UDAN has been a transformational initiative aimed at making air travel affordable and accessible to the common citizen. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue the scheme beyond April 2027 through an Expanded UDAN Framework, focusing on connectivity with hilly, North-Eastern, and aspirational regions, and the development of around 120 new destinations. The Ministry said that the Government has disbursed more than four thousand and 300 crore rupees as Viability Gap Funding to support airline operators and regional infrastructure. Besides, four thousand and 638 crore rupees were also invested in airport development under the scheme.

The Ministry added that the government has also introduced Comprehensive Guidelines for Seaplane Operations last year and launched the UDAN 5.5, a special bidding round for seaplanes and helicopters. Under this round, Letters of Intent have been issued for 150 routes connecting 30 water aerodromes across various coastal and island regions. The Ministry said, UDAN is not just a scheme, it is a catalyst for change and a testament to India’s commitment to making air travel inclusive, sustainable and an integral part of our development journey. PIB

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has inaugurated Yatri Sewa Diwas 2025, starting from Hindon Airport, with Union Minister Rammohan Naidu leading the launch. Emphasizing a passenger-centric approach, Naidu highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of governance rooted in service to the people. The initiative aims to make airports more responsive and equitable by addressing gaps in basic amenities, health safety, and inclusivity, especially for women, senior citizens, and travelers at smaller or newer airports. The launch event featured free medical check-ups, health awareness drives under the Swastha Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, cultural welcome activities, tree planting, and outreach programs targeting taxi drivers, students, and vulnerable groups. Additionally, all airports are set to become WiFi-enabled under the Digital India Mission, ensuring standardized digital access and a more seamless travel experience across the country.

Yatri Sewa Diwas seeks to elevate passenger welfare to a level equal with infrastructure development, emphasizing service quality, safety, and dignity for all travelers. By focusing on health awareness, digital connectivity, and inclusive services, the campaign aims to create consistent improvements in airport facilities—such as hygiene, comfortable waiting areas, and responsive staff—while ensuring vulnerable groups receive better protection. Success hinges on sustained efforts like staff training, maintenance, monitoring, and continuous feedback to translate this symbolic initiative into lasting change. Ultimately, the initiative envisions a future where every journey is not only efficient but also humane, safe, and inclusive for every traveler.
