Inaugurating the facility, Union Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav emphasized that nutritious eating is a crucial cornerstone of preventive healthcare, especially amid rising lifestyle-related diseases driven by modern fast-food habits. He highlighted that the café aims to make wholesome, traditional Indian meals easily accessible and affordable for daily workplace consumption.

Designed to seamlessly integrate India’s ancient dietary wisdom into modern corporate culture, the café features a curated menu of balanced, nutrient-dense dishes and beverages. Offerings include beetroot and oats cutlets, kosambari, millet dhokla, little millet upma, and jaggery-sweetened makhana kheer, alongside herbal drinks like tulsi-ginger tea and fresh coconut water. Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha noted that the initiative serves as a practical model for community engagement and mindful nutrition, furthering the government’s broader mission of embedding preventive wellness into everyday life.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the national celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) from Kolkata’s historic Red Road on June 21, as the Ministry of Ayush rolls out an extensive programme centered on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” Announcing the plans at a curtain-raiser event in New Delhi, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav, said the theme underscores the importance of ensuring that longer life expectancy translates into healthier, more active, independent and meaningful lives. He described yoga as a time-tested and holistic practice that promotes physical fitness, mental well-being and overall quality of life.

Highlighting yoga’s growing global appeal since the United Nations adopted India’s proposal for an International Day of Yoga in 2014, Jadhav said more than 210 Indian missions abroad, in partnership with the ICCR, will organise yoga events at nearly 2,500 locations worldwide. The celebrations will include programmes at 100 iconic sites across India, the ongoing “Gangotri to Gangasagar: Ganga Tat Yoga Yatra,” and special events in Kolkata ahead of June 21. The minister also noted that a nationwide live yoga session held on June 14 attracted over four lakh participants simultaneously, creating a new Guinness World Record and reflecting the increasing popularity of yoga across the country and the world.

The Ministry of Ayush, along with its councils and institutes across the country, has launched the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign with support from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Jal Shakti. This campaign aims to promote cleanliness and sanitation under the theme ‘Swabhav Swachchata, Sanskar Swachchata’, focusing on both behavioral and cultural shifts. A total of 416 activities have been identified in the initial stage to lay the groundwork for this nationwide effort.

The campaign is built around three key pillars, each designed to foster greater public involvement and drive meaningful impact through collective action:

Swachhhata Mein Jan Bhagidari:

This pillar emphasizes public participation and raising awareness, making cleanliness a shared responsibility. The Ministry has identified 169 activities to fulfill the objectives under ‘Swachhata mein Jan Bhagidari’. Since the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission, its success has been driven by collective responsibility, where every citizen plays a crucial role. The Ministry aims to deepen this principle by fostering widespread ownership of waste management and environmental stewardship.

Sampoorna Swachhata:

Under this pillar, including the Swachhata Lakshit Ekayi initiative, 69 places have been selected by the Ministry of Ayush for cleanliness drives. The goal is to transform neglected or challenging locations, often referred to as black spots, into clean and healthy spaces. These areas are typically difficult to manage during regular cleanliness efforts, posing significant health and environmental risks.

Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir:

This pillar prioritizes the health, safety, and well-being of sanitation workers, commonly known as Safai Mitras. To support their efforts, 178 activities have been identified to improve their working conditions. Under Preventive Health Checkups, health camps will be organized to ensure Safai Mitras and their families have access to necessary healthcare services.
