The Government of India, through the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has partnered with Microsoft to launch the ‘AI Careers for Women’ initiative. This pioneering skilling program aims to empower women in higher education institutions by providing them with the necessary skills to pursue careers in Artificial Intelligence (AI). By establishing 30 Centers of Excellence at women’s colleges across six states, the initiative seeks to bridge the gender gap in technology and facilitate women’s participation in the digital economy, thereby contributing to India’s innovation-led growth.

Microsoft will deliver a comprehensive 240-hour training curriculum designed in consultation with the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), aligned with industry standards. The program will employ a hub-and-spoke model, partnering with state education departments for effective implementation. In addition to classroom learning, the initiative will offer hands-on exposure to AI tools, project-based experience, and other enhancements, targeting 20,000 learners in Tier-II and Tier-III towns. Participants will receive structured training, AI certifications, and career support through internships and fellowships, positioning them for success in AI-driven job roles.

Moreover, the initiative aims to bolster opportunities for women in rural India, empowering them to innovate in AI and access economic opportunities. By equipping them to be AI developers and contributors to AI applications, the program supports the creation of a robust talent pipeline for rural innovation. With a focus on building an inclusive workforce and expanding digital career pathways, this collaboration between MSDE and Microsoft aligns with the government’s goals of equitable access to future-ready skills and contributing to a more diverse technology landscape.

ABB India, in partnership with Microsoft and SynerLeap, launched ABB Startup Challenge India 2025, inviting India’s most promising deep tech startups to develop AI-powered solutions for advancing smart drive technology. The winner of the challenge will receive a $30,000 project prize, mentorship from ABB experts, and gain global exposure through ABB’s innovation platforms. The last date to submit applications is April 29, 2025.

Variable Speed Drivers (VSDs) are instrumental in improving energy efficiency, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system users often face challenges understanding how their machines interact with these drives – leading to delays, manual inputs, and increased dependence on technical support. The initiative aims to simplify drive and motor selection, commissioning, and troubleshooting using artificial intelligence.

Under the theme “Advancing Smart Drive Technology with AI Innovation,” the focus is on developing advanced technologies that can simulate real-world drive performance, self-commission without manual parameterization or input, and autonomously troubleshoot issues. Through this initiative, ABB India seeks to create a smarter, self-learning ecosystem that improves reliability, reduces downtime, and enhances the customer experience.

The startup challenge reflects ABB’s continued efforts to promote open innovation and create scalable, local solutions for global sustainability. As ABB India celebrates its 75th anniversary, highlighting a rich legacy of technology and innovation, it introduces this challenge to the country following its successful implementations in parts of Europe and United States.
