● Over 70% of employees face lifestyle-related health risks; Only 20% of employers offer regular health screening

National, 25 July 2025 – MediBuddy, India’s largest digital healthcare company, in collaboration with CII, today unveiled the second edition of its corporate wellness report, marking a continued effort to decode the evolving landscape of employee well-being in India Inc. The latest edition, titled Workplace Health Reimagined: Corporate India’s Readiness for Digital Health Leadership, highlights how employee wellness is evolving from a peripheral initiative to a strategic lever for workforce productivity, talent retention, and business continuity.

India’s healthcare and workplace wellness landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, with wellness emerging as a national priority in the journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047. This is being shaped by rising medical inflation (14%), increased chronic disease risk, a digitally empowered workforce, and growing demand for inclusive and preventive care models. In a post-pandemic world, where hybrid work models have become the norm, organisations are rethinking wellness, placing equal weight on physical and mental health, and moving from episodic to always-on care models. Technology is at the heart of this transformation; AI-driven insights, data-enabled personalisation, and mobile-first platforms are enabling more impactful care delivery. The nation’s digital health infrastructure demonstrates remarkable scale. Public health initiatives such as the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and the IRDAI’s push for 100% cashless insurance claims are further accelerating the shift toward digitally integrated, OPD-first healthcare systems. Together, digital infrastructure and insurance are proving to be critical enablers of equitable, future-ready wellness delivery across India.

The report reveals a stark reality of over 70% of employees carrying at least one lifestyle-related health risk, yet only 20% of employers providing routine health screenings. This alarming scenario calls for a shift from episodic, event-based health programs to always-on, digital-first ecosystems that drive workforce productivity, talent retention, and business continuity, all fostering business growth in today’s evolving times of shifting workforce priorities.

Key findings/highlights from the report:

Macro View: The National Wellness Landscape

Rising Burden of NCDs: Non-communicable diseases now account for 63% of all deaths in India, with heart disease, diabetes, and stroke impacting the workforce at median ages of 32, 34, and 36, respectively.

Healthcare Infrastructure Crisis: The doctor-to-population ratio remains below WHO guidelines, with 70% of Indians in rural/semi-urban areas facing significant access barriers to diagnostics and routine care

Healthcare Coverage Crisis: Only 41% of Indian households have any form of health insurance, leaving over 50 crore people, belonging largely from India’s 40-crore “missing middle” population, particularly comprising gig, daily wage, and informal workers, vulnerable to catastrophic health expenses

Low OPD Insurance Penetration: OPD insurance penetration in India remains below 0.1%, a significant gap compared to over 85% in the US and 95% in Singapore, leaving most outpatient expenses uncovered, despite OPD accounting for nearly 70% of out-of-pocket healthcare spending

High Out-of-Pocket Spending: OOPE accounts for 63% of India’s total health spend

Within Workplaces: The Corporate Lens

Productivity Loss: Presenteeism and chronic illnesses cost Indian companies up to ₹1.12 lakh per employee annually, while structured wellness programs deliver a 3–4x return on investment

Limited Access to Diagnostics: Less than 20% of corporate health programs cover essential diagnostics, despite their role in 60–70% of clinical decisions

Low Preventive Screening for Women: Only 1.9% of eligible Indian women undergo cervical cancer screening, and just 36% of corporates provide targeted wellness benefits for women

Gaps in Women-Centric Benefits: Just 36% of corporates offer targeted wellness benefits for women, with even fewer extending support for eldercare and mental health

Lifestyle Risks and Screening Gaps: Over 70% of employees have at least one lifestyle-related risk factor, yet only 20% of employers provide routine health screenings

SMEs Lag in Wellness Coverage: Although SMEs employ over 111 million people, only 9% offer structured wellness programs

Corporate Wellness Readiness: India’s average Corporate Wellness Quotient (CWQ) score stands at 55/100, with fewer than 15% of companies achieving a ‘Mature’ wellness readiness level

Satish Kannan, Co-founder & CEO, MediBuddy, said, “India’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047 cannot rest on economic metrics alone; it must be built on the health, productivity, and well-being of its people. As we stand at this inflection point, employee wellness can no longer be treated as an optional benefit but must be considered a strategic imperative. With rising health risks and evolving workforce expectations, this report in collaboration with CII offers actionable insights and data-driven frameworks to help organisations transition from annual health camps to always-on, digital-first ecosystems. At MediBuddy, we are happy to support this transformation by delivering care that is proactive, personalised, and powered by technology.”

Insights from the report: Trends reshaping care culture

The report highlights how employee wellness in India is moving beyond one-size-fits-all health programs to more integrated, inclusive, personalised, and digitally powered wellness solutions. Employees now expect benefits that reflect their life, role, and risk profile across domains such as mental health, chronic care, eldercare, and preventive screenings. At the same time, employee engagement is being increasingly driven by features such as gamified health journeys and wellness wallets. Additionally, mobile-first platforms and OPD access for dependents are now becoming differentiators in how employees engage with corporate wellness programs, with inclusion-focused benefits becoming key in addressing diverse workforce needs.

To direct this shift, the report introduces the Corporate Wellness Quotient (CWQ), an original and comprehensive benchmarking tool measuring digital wellness maturity and readiness across four pillars: access & affordability, policy integration, digital enablement, and employee engagement; and the ten-step wellness blueprint, which offers companies a strategic roadmap to build resilient and inclusive care ecosystems.

National, June 30, 2025: MediBuddy, India’s largest digital healthcare company, has released new data revealing that approximately 8.1% of urban corporate employees show elevated cardiac risk, with the 31–40 age group being the most vulnerable. The findings are based on cardiac risk stratification and diagnostic reports collected from 11,779 individuals – 9,404 males and 2,370 females – between April 2024 and March 2025.

91.9% of urban corporate employees were found to be at low cardiac risk, while only 2.82% fell under the moderate risk category. In contrast, a recent ICMR-led national study reported that out of the 4,500 adults tested, just 84.9% were at low risk and 14.4% were at moderate risk of developing heart disease. This significant difference highlights the positive impact of structured employee wellness initiatives in the corporate sector, especially in the post-COVID era. With growing access to subsidised diagnostic tests, annual health check-ups, and comprehensive mediclaim policies, organisations are increasingly prioritising preventive care.

Cardiac Risk Emerging Early Among 31–40-Year-Olds

Among the 31–40 age group, which formed the largest cohort in the study, 10% of individuals were found to be in the moderate or high cardiac risk category, while the 41–50 age group showed 8%. The presence of early cardiac risk markers in younger populations calls attention to the long-term implications of lifestyle, dietary, and stress-related habits.

Improved Cardiac Risk Profile Emerging Among Urban Corporate Women

The gender-wise analysis found that 2.06% of the women screened were classified as high cardiac risk—a promising contrast to broader national trends. According to the study by ICMR, 10% of the tested women face a high risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The significantly lower risk percentage among urban corporate women suggests a positive shift—indicating that with improved health awareness and employer-supported wellness initiatives, women in the workforce are beginning to prioritise their physical health more actively.

While men continue to account for the majority of high-risk cases in MediBuddy’s findings (79.9%), the improving profile of women highlights the early impact of structured workplace health programs in closing gender health gaps.

Lipid Abnormalities Widespread in Urban Workforce

The study also examined results from routine cardiac diagnostic tests. It found that 45% of the individuals tested had high levels of triglycerides, which is a warning sign for heart disease. Additionally, about 30% had an unhealthy balance in their total lipid ratio, and 11% had high levels of LDL.

Speaking on the findings, Dr. Gowri Kulkarni, Head of Medical Operations, MediBuddy, said, “Cardiovascular risk among young and middle-aged professionals is an urgent but often underdiagnosed issue. The data shows that early onset of risk factors is more common than we assume—especially in the 31–40 age group. High stress, sedentary lifestyles, poor diet, and lack of preventive check-ups are contributing to this trend. The good news is that these are manageable through early intervention. At MediBuddy, we aim to help individuals understand their health risk and take proactive steps—whether it’s through clinical follow-ups, lifestyle modification, or medical management.”

The study reinforces the importance of integrating preventive cardiovascular screening into routine employee wellness programmes. In the long term, prioritising lifestyle education, dietary counselling, and regular lipid monitoring can help reduce disease onset and improve overall quality of life for India’s urban workforce.

~With a unique gamified approach, MediBuddy empowers organisations to prioritise employee well-being and prevent health issues in the workplace.

National, 12 November 2024: MediBuddy, India’s largest digital healthcare platform, has launched the second edition of its flagship initiative, the MediBuddy Wellness League (MWL). The league, which commenced on September 16, 2024, has already attracted over 25,000+ registrations and features an expanded prize pool of up to ₹1.5 crore, marking a significant scaling up from last year’s initiative. The prize pool is sponsored by some of the leading brands such as Seiko, FitBit and Sennheiser. Leading brands such as Growfitter, Kojo, Clovia, True Elements, Philips, GNC, Zepto, Slice, Upgrad and Easemytrip have joined forces to make this edition even more exciting.

Building upon the success of its inaugural year, the MWL reaffirms MediBuddy’s commitment to fostering a culture of proactive health management in the corporate sector. Maintaining its innovative structure, the MWL categorises participation with corporate entities functioning as ‘teams’, Human Resources departments assuming the role of ‘coaches’, and individual employees participating as ‘players’.

Over the course of two months, the league will employ a sophisticated point-based gamification framework, wherein participants accrue points through various health-oriented activities. To ensure equitable evaluation, rankings will be determined based on the percentage of active participants, irrespective of organisational scale. Upon conclusion, the activity will recognise excellence with awards for Corporate Wellness Champion, Outstanding Wellness Leadership in Human Resources, and Individual Wellness Achiever.

Mr. Saibal Biswas, SVP & Head of Marketing, Partnerships and PR at MediBuddy, said, “The inaugural MediBuddy Wellness League surpassed our expectations, underscoring the corporate sector’s appetite for innovative health initiatives. This year’s two-month competition is purposefully structured to foster lasting health habits, grounded in research showing that it takes 30 to 45 days to create meaningful behavioural change. Through MWL, we are gamifying wellness to incentivize positive actions in an engaging and enjoyable way, while also addressing a key HR challenge—enhancing employee engagement. With this initiative, we’re helping organisations prioritise preventive healthcare, instil a culture of wellness, and drive a greater impact on workplace well-being.”

Through the introduction of gamification, MediBuddy has created an interactive platform that drives active participation and enthusiasm. The competitive element of the MWL continues to motivate organisations and individuals to strive for excellence with participants. The league will also provide participating companies with personalised health reports for their employees, derived from individual input, which will assist in identifying potential health concerns and addressing them proactively.

This year, MediBuddy is enhancing its offering by providing even more comprehensive health analytics, allowing organisations to track year-over-year improvements and refine their wellness strategies with greater precision. The BMI Tracker is a key component, allowing employees to enter their height and weight, after which the system calculates their Body Mass Index (BMI) and this feature helps participants monitor their health progress over time and provides valuable insights into overall wellness.

As MediBuddy continues to lead the charge in digital health innovation, the second edition of the MWL stands as a testament to the company’s ongoing commitment to revolutionising workplace wellness and preventive healthcare in India.

Access to the league remains exclusively through the MediBuddy mobile application, with registration now open for both returning and new corporate participants.

Analysing data from 10,990 individuals aged 20-40, the study sheds light on the limitations of relying solely on BMI. It highlights the need for a proactive, personalised approach to preventive care, especially in the face of evolving health challenges faced by young Indians.

The long-held reliance on BMI might overlook crucial factors in the current health landscape. Consider the rise of the “on-demand” generation juggling hectic schedules, high-pressure jobs, unhealthy food habits, and limited physical activity. These realities, coupled with changing food habits towards convenient but processed options, could be fueling a silent threat in the form of high cholesterol among young Indians with normal BMI.

The findings reveal that 22% of individuals with high Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol [LDL-C] (>160mg/dL), a key indicator of future cardiovascular risk, fall within the normal Body Mass Index [BMI] range of 18.5 -22.9. This challenges the traditional belief that elevated cholesterol is primarily associated with obesity. Notably, men are more likely to be affected, with 63.7% of individuals with high LDL-C falling within this category. Similarly, 26.5% of individuals with borderline high LDL-C (130-159 mg/dL)) belong to the normal BMI category. These statistics highlight the significant role of factors beyond BMI in determining cholesterol levels, including shifting food habits, and sedentary lifestyle, chronic stress, and even genetics.

Dr.Gowri Kulkarni, Head of Medical Operations, MediBuddy expressed concern over these revelations, stating, “The prevalence of elevated cholesterol levels among young individuals with normal BMI highlights the urgent need to move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach and embrace a personalised, preventive healthcare strategy that considers individual factors. Regular health checkups and tailored lifestyle modifications like stress management, healthy eating, and increased physical activity are vital to safeguarding cardiovascular health and well-being for young Indians navigating this evolving health landscape.”

As young Indians navigate evolving health challenges, the study highlights the significance of proactive healthcare measures.

National, October 5: MediBuddy, India’s largest digital healthcare platform, unveils workplace data that underscores the vital role in early diagnosis and diabetes management. According to the data, the prevalence of pre-diabetes is 32.5%, while the prevalence of diabetes is 11.31%, highlighting the importance of early intervention in reducing the incidence of diabetes later in life; pre-diabetes can be typically detected nearly a decade earlier. The data also reveals that approximately 13.7% of the patients with diabetes were male, while only 5.3% were female.

India accounts for one in seven of all adults living with diabetes globally. Accessibility to high-quality healthcare through telemedicine can help facilitate the uptake of preventive care and further lower health risks, especially in developing countries with a skewed doctor-to-patient ratio.

Dr. Gowri Kulkarni, Head of Medical Operations, MediBuddy says, “Our data demonstrates the profound impact of preventive medicine in mitigating healthcare costs and enhancing patients’ longevity and quality of life. We at MediBuddy advocate for preventive healthcare as a cornerstone of public health. Our industry must pivot from a reactive approach to a more proactive and primary care-centred model, whether delivered at home or in the workplace. “

Given the age statistics, the average age of individuals with diabetes was 50+ years, notably higher than that of pre-diabetic patients, between 20 and 40 years. Most of these patients took routine health check-ups with us, where they were initially diagnosed with either diabetes or pre-diabetes. The majority of these patients sought our care following their regular health examinations, during which they received their initial diagnosis of either diabetes or pre-diabetes.

After initial diagnosis, around 40% of those with diabetes and 25% with prediabetes opted to maintain continuous engagement with MediBuddy. Over a span of 7-8 months, MediBuddy’s holistic approach, combining medication, dietary modifications, and exercise, led to remarkable improvements, including a 1.8% reduction in HBA1C levels and a 1 Kg/m^2 decrease in BMI. In cases involving significant comorbidities, diabetes-related complications, or unstable diabetes, patients were educated about the necessity of regular physical follow-ups, which they received from network doctors.

Dr. Preeti Kumar Goyal, Vice President of Medical Services, MediBuddy vHealth says, “One of the most striking trends observed over the years is the reduction in the age at which prediabetes is diagnosed. This highlights that early detection and management of prediabetes can effectively prevent its progression to diabetes. Similarly, early detection and proactive management of diabetes can help lower blood sugar levels, reduce the need for medications, and prevent or delay the onset of any complications. Our in-house team of doctors and clinical dieticians are easily accessible to help patients adhere to treatment plans and guide them about ways to prevent and control diabetes.”

A much higher prevalence observed in Non-communicable diseases will lead to lowered quality of life and strain on the healthcare ecosystem. MediBuddy’s vision is to make high-quality healthcare accessible to a billion people. With specialist doctors on our platform, one can leverage and promote to bring about preventive changes in lifestyle and health. Through this collective effort, we can reduce the healthcare ecosystem’s burden and improve health metrics for future generations.

About MediBuddy

MediBuddy has always been at the forefront of India’s digital healthcare transformation. The digital healthcare platform has a partner network of 90,000+ doctors across 22+ specialities, 7,100+ hospitals and clinics, 4,000+ diagnostic centers, 2,500+ pharmacies along with a team size of 2200+ members.
National, August 3: As the country witnessed heavy rainfall and flooding over the past few weeks, MediBuddy, India’s largest digital healthcare platform, has reported a significant increase in the number of conjunctivitis and eye flu-related cases. According to the data, there is an increasing trend in patients seeking medical advice for various eye-related problems. The most frequently reported issues include conjunctivitis, red eye with watering, discharge, and sticky lids in the morning. The platform reported a substantial increase in overall Ophthalmology consultations, surging from 1% last year to 2.6%, marking a significant 137% rise. Most cases are linked to conjunctivitis among young adults aged between 25 and 35 years, with an increase of 49%.

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as ‘pink eye,’ is an eye infection caused by viruses or bacteria that lead to inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin membrane covering the eye’s white part and the eyelids’ inner surface. The condition can be transmitted through direct contact with infected individuals, contaminated objects, or respiratory droplets. It can also have seasonal patterns, with some types more prevalent during specific times of the year. Symptoms of conjunctivitis include redness and inflammation of the eyes, itchiness and irritation, crusty eyelids – particularly after waking up, and a gritty sensation.

Dr. Gowri Kulkarni, Head of Medical Operations, MediBuddy says, “With the onset of the rainy season, we have seen a significant increase in consultations for conjunctivitis. Individuals need to stay vigilant about the symptoms and seek immediate doctor consultation. Conjunctivitis, though typically resolving independently, can be caused by different factors, and accurate diagnosis is crucial to prevent its spread and potential complications. I advise everyone experiencing conjunctivitis symptoms to seek medical attention promptly to manage the condition effectively.”

In light of the current situation, MediBuddy urges individuals to adopt preventive measures to curb the transmission of conjunctivitis.
