Covid rules must be strict :SC

The Supreme Court has said that the rules imposed should be strictly followed until a vaccine is introduced. While in a affidavit canter govt blamed Delhi govt for not taking appropriate action to curb pandemic

masIt is time to strictly implement the policy, guidelines and standard operating procedures to contain the surge of coronavirus cases in the country, the Supreme Court stated.

The apex court also pulled up the states and said that they have to rise to the occasion and above politics to deal with covid.

The court’s remarks came as the Centre informed the court that 10 states contribute to nearly 77 per cent of the total COVID-19 caseload in the country.

Meanwhile India has reported 41,322 fresh COVID-19 cases till today, 4% lower than on Friday, taking its overall number to 93.51 lakh cases and 1,36,200 deaths, Union Health Ministry data shows. These numbers come even as a vaccine to fight back the virus seemed tantalisingly close. The states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala were the most affected ones, with deaths ranging from 23 to 85 in the past 24 hours.

Delhi  recorded 5,482 new cases and 98 deaths. The city’s overall number of cases now stands at 5,56,744, with 8,909 deaths at a rate of 1.6%. Up to 64,455 tests were conducted across the city in the past 24 hours

Masks are necessary for preventing the spread of the virus, said district collector Naval Kishore Ram.

“Therefore , we have ordered people and government employees to use masks in public places,” officials said.

Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Shisve said action will be taken under the Epidemic Diseases Act if a person is seen on the streets without a mask.

Meanwhile The Gujarat government said on Wednesday that 31 private hospitals across the state would be put to use as `designated’ COVID-19 hospitals for coronavirus patients. Already, dedicated COVID-19 hospitals with combined capacity of 2,200 beds are operational in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara and Surat. The 31 new designated hospitals will add 4,064 beds, said an official release.

The decision was taken at a state cabinet meeting, chaired by chief minister Vijay Rupani and held through video conference, said the release.

Also A 38-year-old man with a travel history to Delhi tested positive for COVID-19 in Bihar on Wednesday, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 39. State epidemiologist Ragini Mishra said the patient hailed from Nawada, becoming the first person from the central Bihar district to test positive.

Principal Secretary, Health, Sanjay Kumar said the patient had “a travel history to Delhi” and more details were sought about which places he visited in the National Capital and the people whom he came in contact with.

The decision has empowered the centre as well states to regulate production, quality, distributions of masks and hand sanitisers, and also to smoothen sale and availability of these items, and carry out operations against speculators.

A person found guilty of committing an offence under the Essential Commodities Act can be jailed up to seven years.
