महाशिवरात्रि के प्रथम प्रहर में संकल्प करके दूध से स्नान व `ओम हीं ईशानाय नम:’ का जाप करना चाहिए। द्वितीय प्रहर में दधि स्नान करके `ओम हीं अधोराय नम:’ का जाप व तृतीय प्रहर में घृत स्नान एवं मंत्र `ओम हीं वामदेवाय नम:’ तथा चतुर्थ प्रहर में मधु स्नान एवं `ओम हीं सद्योजाताय नम:’ मंत्र का जाप करना चाहिए।

महाशिवरात्रि पड़ रही है वो 21 फरवरी को है. 21 तारीख को शाम को 5 बजकर 20 मिनट से त्रयोदशी तिथि समाप्त हो जाएगी और चतुर्दशी तिथि शुरू होगी. चतुर्दशी तिथि को ही शिवरात्रि मनाई जाती है. शिवरात्रि तिथि रात्रि में जब होगी तभी मनाई जाएगी.

महाशिवरात्रि का शुभ मुहूर्त

21 फरवरी को ये शिवरात्रि शाम को 5 बजकर 20 मिनट से शुरु होकर शनिवार 22 फरवरी को शाम 7 बजकर 2 मिनट तक रहेगी. रात्रि की पूजा शाम को 6 बजकर 41 मिनट से शुरू होकर रात 12 बजकर 52 मिनट तक होगी. शिवरात्रि में जो रात का समय होता है उसमें चार पहर की पूजा होती है.
व्रत खोलने का समय

चतुर्दशी तिथि भगवान शिव की ही तिथि मानी जाती है. चतुर्दशी तिथि को ही शिवरात्रि होती है. 21 फरवरी को त्रयोदशी के दिन जो लोग पूजन नहीं कर पा रहे हैं तो वो 22 फरवरी को भी चतुर्दशी के समय तक शिव का पूजन कर सकते हैं. मंदिरों में 22 फरवरी को भी धूमधाम से शिव का पूजन किया जाएगा. शिवरात्रि तभी मनानी चाहिए जिस रात्रि में चतुर्दशी तिथि हो. शिवरात्री का व्रत रखने वाले अगले दिन 22 फरवरी को सुबह 6 बजकर 57 मिनट से लेकर दोपहर 3 बजकर 22 मिनट तक पारण कर सकते हैं.

महाशिवरात्रि की पूजा विधि

शिव रात्रि को भगवान शंकर को पंचामृत से स्नान करा कराएं. केसर के 8 लोटे जल चढ़ाएं. पूरी रात्रि का दीपक जलाएं. चंदन का तिलक लगाएं.

तीन बेलपत्र, भांग धतूर, तुलसी, जायफल, कमल गट्टे, फल, मिष्ठान, मीठा पान, इत्र व दक्षिणा चढ़ाएं. सबसे बाद में केसर युक्त खीर का भोग लगा कर प्रसाद बांटें.

– पूजा में सभी उपचार चढ़ाते हुए ॐ नमो भगवते रूद्राय, ॐ नमः शिवाय रूद्राय् शम्भवाय् भवानीपतये नमो नमः मंत्र का जाप करें.

पूजन सामग्री
महाशिवरात्रि के व्रत से एक दिन पहले ही पूजन सामग्री एकत्रित कर लें, जो इस प्रकार है: शमी के पत्ते, सुगंधित पुष्‍प, बेल पत्र, धतूरा, भांग, बेर, आम्र मंजरी, जौ की बालें, तुलसी दल, गाय का कच्चा दूध, गन्‍ने का रस, दही, शुद्ध देसी घी, शहद, गंगा जल, पवित्र जल, कपूर, धूप, दीप, रूई, चंदन, पंच फल, पंच मेवा, पंच रस, इत्र, रोली, मौली, जनेऊ, पंच मिष्‍ठान, शिव व मां पार्वती की श्रृंगार की सामग्री, दक्षिणा, पूजा के बर्तन आदि.
महाशिवरात्रि की पूजन विधि
– महाशिवरात्रि के दिन सुबह-सवेरे उठकर स्‍नान कर स्‍वच्‍छ वस्‍त्र धारण करें और व्रत का संकल्‍प लें.
– इसके बाद शिव मंदिर जाएं या घर के मंदिर में ही शिवलिंग पर जल चढ़ाएं.
– जल चढ़ाने के लिए सबसे पहले तांबे के एक लोटे में गंगाजल लें. अगर ज्‍यादा गंगाजल न हो तो सादे पानी में गंगाजल की कुछ बूंदें मिलाएं.
– अब लोटे में चावल और सफेद चंदन मिलाएं और “ऊं नम: शिवाय” बोलते हुए शिवलिंग पर जल चढ़ाएं.
– जल चढ़ाने के बाद चावल, बेलपत्र, सुगंधित पुष्‍प, धतूरा, भांग, बेर, आम्र मंजरी, जौ की बालें, तुलसी दल, गाय का कच्‍चा दूध, गन्‍ने का रस, दही, शुद्ध देसी घी, शहद, पंच फल, पंच मेवा, पंच रस, इत्र, मौली, जनेऊ और पंच मिष्‍ठान एक-एक कर चढ़ाएं.
– अब शमी के पत्ते चढ़ाते हुए ये मंत्र बोलें:
अमंगलानां च शमनीं शमनीं दुष्कृतस्य च।
दु:स्वप्रनाशिनीं धन्यां प्रपद्येहं शमीं शुभाम्।।
– शमी के पत्ते चढ़ाने के बाद शिवजी को धूप और दीपक दिखाएं.
– फिर कर्पूर से आरती कर प्रसाद बांटें.
– शिवरात्रि के दिन रात्रि जागरण करना फलदाई माना जाता है.

1-धतुरे के पुष्प शिव को अर्पित करने से संतान की प्राप्ति होती है।

2 -आंकड़े के फूल अर्पण करने से लंबी आयु की प्राप्ति होती है।

3 -एक लाख बिल्वपत्र से हर इच्छित वस्तु की प्राप्ति होती है।

4 -जपाकुसुम से शत्रु का नाश होता है।

5 -बेला से सुंदर सुयोग्य पत्नी की प्राप्ति होती है।

6 – हरसिंगार से सुख-संपत्ति की प्राप्ति होती है।

7- शमी पत्र व शमी के फूल से मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है।

8 -शंखपुष्प से लक्ष्मी की प्राप्ति होती है।

9- केवड़ा के पुष्प शिव पूजन में निषेध है।
