In Rajasthan, 2,549 persons have been tested positive for COVID 19 during the last 24 hours. It is the highest number of infections reported in a single day so far. After the increase in Corona cases, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot interacted with representatives of private hospitals through video conference today. The number of active patients in the capital city of Jaipur has reached close to 7,000, while there are more than 20,100 active cases in the state. There is now a shortage of ICU beds in government and private hospitals. In view of the situation, the Chief Minister has urged private hospitals to increase the number of beds for COVID patients. After reports of COVID patients in Jodhpur not getting proper treatment, the State Human Rights Commission has constituted a high level committee under the chairmanship of the Divisional Commissioner, to inspect all private and government hospitals and submit a factual report.

A 19-year-old pizza delivery agent has tested positive for coronavirus in south Delhi, causing a huge scare for over 70 families. The teen had delivered pizzas till April 12 and in the last 15 days he had delivered to 72 families in south Delhi areas like Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar and Savitri Nagar. He has been admitted to RML hospital.

These families have been home quarantined and are being monitored.

Twenty more delivery boys who came in contact with the teen have been quarantined at a facility in Chhattarpur.

The delivery boy doesn’t have any travel history, say officials, who suspect he may have got the infection while delivering pizza to an infected family.

In a statement, food delivery giant Zomato said it had been made aware today that a restaurant employee who had tested positive for the virus, “had delivered food in the past to a few customers” in Malviya Nagar.

“Some of these orders were placed on Zomato. We are not sure whether the rider was affected at the time of delivery,” said he statement

“All these customers have already been contacted by government authorities,” Zomato said, adding that the restaurant where the rider worked had been shut down.

“COVID-19 could happen to anyone – and it is near impossible for all of us to completely isolate ourselves, especially when we need outside support for essentials such as food…We believe that none of our riders should and would knowingly keep working if they knew they were infected with COVID-19,” it said.

Delhi has 1,578 COVID-19 cases, including over 30 deaths.

The passengers will be refunded 100% of their money, it added. Railways on Thursday cancelled 84 trains, which will not operate between March 20 and March 31, in view of low occupancy and the novel coronavirus pandemic, officials said.

India’s largest firm Reliance Industries has initiated work-from-home for its staff while keeping open consumer-facing businesses of hospital, retail stores and telecom with a minimum workforce amid increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the country.

Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray’s swearing-in as Maharashtra’s new Chief Minister will take place today, as the Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)-Congress alliance started finalising power-sharing details. Maharashtra will have just one deputy chief minister, from the NCP, and the Speaker’s post will go to the Congress, NCP leader Praful Patel announced after a six-hour-long meeting of the alliance, also known as Maha Vikas Aghadi, on Wednesday evening.

The alliance, along with smaller parties and independents, staked claim to power after the 80-hour Devendra Fadnavis government collapsed on Tuesday for want of a majority.

Maharashtra’s 43 ministries need to be divided between three parties and the ratio believed to be in discussion is 15 ministries for the Sena, 15 for the NCP and 12 for the Congress. But smaller parties like Swabhimani Sangathana and Samajwadi Party also need to be accommodated.

The Shiv Sena leader, who will be sworn in as the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra at Mumbai’s sprawling Shivaji Park, late on Wednesday evening called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi and invited him to his oath ceremony.
