“There are 55-60 mosques in Ayodhya alone. But for Hindus, it is the birth place of Lord Ram…we can’t change the birthplace,” K Parasaran told the top court. Insisting that the construction of a mosque at the site was a “historic wrong.

Appearing for ‘Ram Lalla Virajman‘, mr Paraaran said Hindus had fought for centuries for the place believed to be the birthplace of Ram.

The five-judge Constitution bench, which is headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi,closely question Mr Parasaran on various technicalities. Including the law of limitation and doctrine of adverse possession.

At the conclusion of its questioning, the Chief Justice turned to Rajeev Dhavan, who is representing the Muslim petitioners. And, in a lighter tone, asked him if he was satisfied with the court’s queries.

“Mr Dhavan, are we asking sufficient number of questions to the Hindu parties now?”. The Chief Justice said, “We are saying this on a lighter note. Not everything has to be taken seriously.

Speaking at annual dashahra rally of shivsena udhdhav the Shiv Sena is committed to providing reservation in jobs and education to the Dhangar (shepherd) community and will also fight for the rights of “India-loving” Muslims.

In his 35-minute-long speech Thackeray highlighted Ram Mandir issue and said “Courts have a holiday on the day when Lord Ram killed Ravan (on Dussehra). Courts are also closed the day when Ram returned to Ayodhya (on Diwali) after killing Ravan. The only issue of contention now is whether Ram was born in Ayodhya,” he said.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had advised not to speak on the Ram temple issue as the matter is pending before the Supreme Court. “The Supreme Court verdict is expected this month, but our demand remains that a special law be enacted for construction of a Ram mandir in Ayodhya,” 

Mr Thackeray said his party is not the raising the issue of Ram temple for politics or electoral gains.“We are committed to the construction of the temple. When we got our bow and arrow symbol, the issue of Ram mandir wasn’t there,” he said to drive home the point that the sensitive matter was above politics for the party.

Of the 288 seats, the BJP is contesting 164 and the Shiv Sena 124, establishing the latter as a junior ally in a state where it was once the senior coalition partner. “We did make some compromises for the alliance to happen, but they were in the interest of Maharashtra. I apologise to Shiv Sainiks whose seats have gone to the allies”.

Thackeray sought to dispel the notion that the Shiv Sena had “surrendered” while entering into a pre-poll alliance with the BJP for the assembly polls. “You have to continue working hard to make the party strong and work to make sure its victory,” he said,

Appearing before a Constitution Bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, senior advocate Zafaryab Jilani clarified repeatedly to Justice S.A. Bobde that Ram Chabutra, in the outer courtyard, was worshipped by the Hindus as Lord Ram’s birthplace.

Mr. Jilani said his case was that the inside of Babri Masjid was never the birth spot.  My case is that Hindus never worshipped the space inside the Babri Masjid as the birthplace of Lord Ram. But they worshipped the Ram Chabutra as the birthplace. The Ram Chabutra was hardly 50 to 80 feet from the mosque,” he said.

Senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan, who earlier argued extensively for the Muslim side for days, had never, unlike Mr. Jilani, conceded that Ram Chabutra was the exact birth spot.

“So you have no dispute that Lord Ram was born in Ayodhya,” Justice Bobde asked Mr. Jilani. “There is no dispute to that. Our dispute concerns their place that the birthplace is inside the mosque,” Mr. Jilani replied.

“But you accept that Ram Chabutra is the birthplace,” Justice Bobde persisted. “We accept it because there is a district judge finding,” Mr. Jilani responded.

But Justice Ashok Bhushan intervened to see that no court had concluded that Ram Chabutra was the exact birthplace.
