Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Announces Daily Kashmir-Delhi Parcel Train Service

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today informed that the Railways is introducing a daily time-tabled parcel train from Badgam in Kashmir Valley to Adarsh Nagar station in Delhi from Saturday. In a social media post, Mr Vaishnaw underscored that the Kashmir valley now has better connectivity with the Jammu-Srinagar line now operational. He also informed that the loading of two parcel vans carrying apples from Badgam to Delhi is beginning today.

Mostly Dry Winter worries Kashmir

The prolonged dry winter has been a cause of much worry in Kashmir. It is sign of increasing adverse impacts of climate change and global warming in Kashmir. All this augurs not well for the electricity prospects of Kashmir and overall water resources, with it hitting hard the agriculture prospects. Snowfall is the main core of Winter in Kashmir. Kashmir’s winter is divided into three phases: “Chillai Kalan”, the harshest 40 days when snowfall is heaviest and the period lasts till January 29, followed by 20 days of lighter “Chillai Khord” lasts till February 19 and 10 days of “Chille Bachi”, baby cold, lasts till March. Kashmir winter has no charm if there is no snow. This winter Kashmir is witnessing one of the driest winters with zero snow. This is posing grave threat to agriculture and tourism. Even the world famous hill stations like Gulmarg and Pahalgam are having zero snow that are badly hitting the tourism.

As currently it is snowing a little in some mountains parts of Kashmir, but plains are still dry. The overall prospect of core part of winter going dry is a worrying phenomenon. Abdul Ahad, a commoner states:” This has been an unprecedented dry winter in Kashmir hitting badly both health of masses and economy of Kashmir. We in Kashmir need to gear up to the rising challenges of winter. One hopes at least it snows more to compensate the dry winter of Kashmir. “

Although The fresh snowfall and showers at some places has ended the prolonged dry spell, which was being considered as very alarming. Environmental experts observe that prolonged dry spells in winter and Summer in Kashmir are indicators of worrying climate change. But, overall winter in Kashmir remaining dry is a matter of grim concern

Earthquake Hits Kashmir

An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 hit Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Tuesday, officials said, the third to hit the union territory in three days.

However, there were no reports of any damage yet, they said.The earthquake occurred at 7 AM and its epicenter was is Tajikistan, according to the officials.

Strong tremors were felt in most parts of the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, Kishtwar and Doda districts. Tremors were also felt in Jammu, they said.

On Monday an earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter Scale struck 83 km northwest (NW) of Gujarat’s Rajkot at 12:57 pm. Tremors were also felt in Bhachau region of Kutch. It is learnt that tremors were felt twice within five minutes leaving the residents in a state of panic with many rushing out of their homes to save their lives.

This was the second earthquake to struck Rajkot in less than 24 hours. An earthquake measuring 5.8 magnitudes on the Richter Scale struck 122 km north-northwest of Rajkot, Gujarat at 8:13 pm on Sunday.

Gujarat has witnessed three major earthquakes in the past with the most devastating in 2001, another in Anjar in 1956 and the third in 1918 in the Rann of Kutch. The earthquake that struck Gujarat on January 26, 2001, measured 6.9 on the Richter scale and lasted for a little over 100 seconds. it has caused huge loss of lives then .

Controversial statement on shaheen bagh continues from BJP

As the date of the Delhi Assembly Elections 2020 approaches, the words of the leaders are also continuously spreading fire. The BJP leader of West Bengal Rahul Sinha has called the endorsers of Shaheen Bagh as intruders. Regarding the people gathered against the CAA at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi, Rahul Sinha said that they are people from Bangladesh or Pakistan. The West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Monday passed a resolution demanding the abolition of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Rahul Sinha also condemned it.

It is clear from such statements coming continuously from the BJP leaders that the BJP has been troubled by the movement of Shaheen Bagh. The government and the party are constantly trying to describe it as separatist, but like Shaheen Bagh, such movements have started in many parts of the country.

Meanwhile, in the report of the government agency ED, it has been said that funding has been done from Islamic countries for the movement started against the CAA. According to the ED, about 120 crore rupees have been given so far from different accounts. This money has been distributed through Kerala-based organization PFI.
