India-wide Release, May 2025: Aadyam Theatre, an initiative by the Aditya Birla Group, proudly brings its most vibrant production yet to the capital — The Dragon Rose Project’s Mumbai Star, a dazzling dance musical that captures the pulse and poetry of Mumbai. After a blockbuster premiere in its namesake city, the show arrives in Delhi for two days only — 14th & 15th June 2025 at Kamani Auditorium — in what promises to be the theatre event of the season.

Directed by Nadir Khan and choreographed by Avantika Bahl, with contributions by guest choreographers – Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Vidushi Uma Dogra, Krutika Mehta, and Vivaran Dhasmana – Mumbai Star is a sprawling dance drama — a heady mix of storytelling, stylised movement, and musical theatre. It brings together bold choreography, sharp visuals, and raw emotion to tell a tale of dreams, determination, and destiny.

At its heart is Dev, a young dancer from a coastal village in Maharashtra, who arrives in Mumbai with little more than his mother’s dream and a burning passion to make it big. He auditions for Mumbai Star, a dance competition that could change his life forever. What unfolds is a transformative journey through ambition and heartbreak, the glitter of fame and its shadows — and a powerful relationship with a mentor who becomes his moral compass.

With a 19-track original score by Dhruv Ghanekar and lyrics by Ishitta Arun, the show features an eclectic album — from orchestral overtures and folk percussion to hip hop and soaring ballads. While the studio version features celebrated artists like Sunidhi Chauhan, Nakash Aziz, Kunal Ganjawala, Ravi Chary, and Stony Psyko, on stage, the songs are elevated by dynamic on-stage performances by the show’s powerhouse dancers and ensemble — who embody each track with stunning precision, expression, and theatrical flair.”

Featuring a stellar cast — including Avenav Mukherjee, Abhishek Choksi, Arushi Nigam, Jayesh Sarange, associate choreographer Surabhi Andrade, and more — Mumbai Star is choreographed as a series of high-impact, emotive dance sequences. Lending a powerful theatrical frame to the movement are seasoned actors Rajit Kapur and Srishti Shrivastava, who narrate and guide the story as it unfolds.

Says producer and original writer Devika Shahani, “Mumbai Star is very close to my heart. It is a universal story about one of the most important relationships of our lives—the guru and shishya. The seed of this subject germinated from my determination to present the dynamic between mentor and disciple through music and dance. Aadyam is taking a new and bold step in this different storytelling form. I am grateful to be able to tell this story, my third production with Aadyam, and an ode to my mentor on this beautiful stage.”

India-wide release, 6th December 2024: Aadyam Theatre, a pioneering theatre initiative by Aditya Birla to preserve the celebrated art form of theatre, is back with classic live storytelling. The inception of the seventh season in Mumbai saw a great response from theatregoers, and now the immersive theatre experience is coming to Delhi. The capital city has been bustling with a rich theatre scene for the longest time and now will witness the return of Aadyam Theatre’s 7th season with Atul Kumar’s adaptation of Mark Haddon’s acclaimed work ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.’ The latest showcase will be a three-show weekend at the Kamani Auditorium on 11th and 12th January 2025.

Atul Kumar, a renowned theatre personality, reimagines Mark Haddon’s acclaimed work in an Indian setting. Originally adapted for stage by Simon Stephens, the play has won several accolades, including Olivier Awards and Tony Awards.

The story delves into the life of Christopher Bonne, a fifteen-year-old child who is on a mission to unearth the truth about Mrs. Pinto’s dog’s death. It is an exploratory tale of not just solving this mystery of the wicked act but also knowing about Christopher’s world that he inhabits and how he interacts with this world around and within.

Atul Kumar, the renowned actor and theatre director, has aced many art forms and dabbled into different languages, showcasing a vivid repertoire both in India and abroad. He has also been running The Company Theatre, which produced Piya Behrupiya, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night for the 2012 World Shakespeare Festival.

With this latest adaptation, Atul is bringing his signature flair of immersive storytelling by setting the story in the bylanes of Bandra. The play is an atypical thriller, where, as the play unfolds, it delves into the deeper questions of what is accepted as normal. It ploughs beyond the surface level, digging deeper into the complexities of human lives and discovering some unpleasant truths from the perspective of a teenager. Atul will immerse the audience with stunning projections, captivating physical movements, and an electrifying soundtrack.

Additionally, the production boasts of an exceptional ensemble cast including renowned names like Dheer Hira (Jigra, Sardar Uddham Singh) in the lead role. Jaimini Pathak (Scam 1992, TVF Pitchers, Hush Hush, Scoop), Dheer Hira (Jigra, Sardar Uddham Singh), Dilnaz Irani (Sukhee, Heroine, Sense 8), Shivani Tanksale (Talaash, The Dirty Picture, 24), Salone Mehta (The Archies, Dear Zindagi, Dahaad), Harssh Singh (Special Ops, Raman Raghav 2.0, Rocket Boys), Vidushi Chadha (Deep Water, How Do You Fall Out of Love With Country Music? HIS Period), and Abhay Kaul (The Open Couple) will be also seen in prominent roles.
