“Five terrorists have been eliminated in operation Reban in Shopian,” defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia said.

He said good drills ensured no collateral damage took place during the operation.

A police official said the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Reban area of Shopian, in South Kashmir, this morning after receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after terrorists fired at a search party of the forces, which retaliated.

The operation ran on for over six hours during which the security personnel also faced stone throwing. The situation was brought under control by additional forces and suspending internet.

According to reports, the security forces had asked the terrorists to lay down their weapons and surrender. The terrorists, however, fired at the forces and were killed in retaliatory firing.

A Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Farooq Asad Nalli, and a foreign national is among the terrorists killed.
A large number of arms and ammunition have also been found.

Last month, two terrorists were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Considering the difficulties faced by trade and industry in filing of returns, the government has decided to introduce several measures to ease the process. The Finance Ministry today said that now GST taxpayers can file their GSTR-3B returns in a staggered manner.

Presently the last date of filing GSTR-3B returns for every taxpayer is 20th of every month. From now on, the last date for filing of GSTR-3B for the taxpayers having annual turnover of Rs 5 crore and above in the previous financial year would be 20th of the month. Thus, around 8 lakh regular taxpayers would have the last date of GSTR-3B filing as 20th of every month without late fees.

The taxpayers having annual turnover below Rs 5 crore in previous financial year will be divided further in two categories. The tax filers from 15 States/ UTs, i.e., Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will now be having the last date of filing GSTR-3B returns as 22nd of the month without late fees. This category would have around 49 lakh GSTR-3B filers who would now have 22nd of every month as their last date for filing GSTR-3B returns.

For the remaining 46 lakh taxpayers from the 22 States/UTs of Jammu and Kashmir, Laddakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha having annual turnover below Rs 5 crore in previous financial year will now be having last date of filing the GSTR-3B as 24th of the month without late fees.

The Finance Ministry said that the necessary notification in this regard would be issued later by the competent authority.

In a statement issues, the Ministry further said that it has also taken a note of difficulties and concerns expressed by the taxpayers regarding filing of GSTR-3B and other returns. The matter has been discussed by the GSTN with Infosys, the Managed Service Provider, which has come out with above solution to de-stress the process as a temporary but immediate measure. For further improving the performance of GSTN filing portal on permanent basis, several technological measures are being worked out with Infosys and will be in place by April 2020.

General Rawat added that close to 500 infiltrators are waiting to infiltrate into India. Balakot has been reactivated by Pakistan very recently. That shows that Balakot has been affected. It had been damaged and destroyed. And that is why people have away from there and now it has been reactivated,” he told reporters at the Officers Training Academy.

“…some action had been taken by Indian Air Force and now they have the people back there,” he said.

A fleet of IAF jets had destroyed terror launch pads in Balakot in a pre-dawn aerial attack carried out on February 27. During the aerial confrontation, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman brought down a Pakistani F-16 but was taken prisoner near the Line of Control (LoC).
Pakistan had also decided to restrict access to its airspace after the Balakot strikes, resulting in a loss of 8.5 billion Pakistani rupees.

The airspace was opened in July, but Pakistani leaders have in recent weeks given statements on airspace closure following India’s move to scrap special status for Jammu and Kashmir. The Army Chief’s comments come days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to discuss the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Yesterday, at the mega “Howdy, Modi!” event in Houston, where he shared a stage with US President Donald Trump, the PM took on Pakistan and said it was time to fight against terrorism and those who supported terror. “Whether it is 9/11 in America or 26/11 in Mumbai, where are its conspirators found? Not just you, the world knows who these people are,” he said without naming Pakistan.

On February 26, a dozen French-origin Mirage 2000 jets of the Indian Air Force penetrated deep inside Pakistan and bombed the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad camp in response to a terror attack in which a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb near a convoy of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, killing 40 soldiers.

At the UN later this week, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, set to speak after PM Modi, is likely to try and bring up India’s move to scrap special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and divide it into two Union Territories.

Pakistan’s move to re-activate the Balakot Jaish camp belies its commitment to the international community on not giving shelter to terrorists on its soil.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah was on Monday charged under the Public Safety Act (PSA), a stringent law that enables detention without trial for two years.

The senior politician had so far been under “unofficial” house arrest in Srinagar, where hundreds of politicians have been detained or arrested as part of the centre’s attempts to prevent trouble over its decision to end special status to Jammu and Kashmir last month.

The tougher law was applied to the 81-year-old veteran on a day the Supreme Court sent notice to the centre and the Jammu and Kashmir administration on a petition seeking Mr Abdullah’s release so he could attend an event in Chennai.

The petitioner is Tamil Nadu’s MDMK leader Vaiko, a close friend of Mr Abdullah for four decades.

Mr Vaiko requested the National Conference leader’s release from “illegal detention” so he can attend a mega MDMK event to mark the birth anniversary of CN Annadurai, the first chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Vaiko said Mr Abdullah had been kept under “illegal detention without any authority of law” in violation of his constitutional rights.

“The actions of the respondents (government) are completely illegal and arbitrary and violative of the right to protection of life and personal liberty, right to protection from arrest and detention and also against right to free speech and expression which is the cornerstone of a democratic nation,” the Tamil Nadu leader said.

The Supreme Court on Monday allowed Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to visit Jammu, Anantnag, Baramulla and Srinagar districts in the State with riders.

Mr. Azad is free to interact with people, but cannot hold any political rallies during his visit to State.

Mr. Azad had moved the Supreme Court seeking permission to visit his home State to enquire about the well being of his family members. He said he has filed the petition in his personal capacity and it is apolitical.

His plea was taken up by a bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S.A. Bobde and S. Abdul Nazeer.

While the Congress had taken a strong position against the abrogation, Mr. Azad said the media should not analyse his petition pending before the top court.

“I have filed the petition in my personal capacity, not on behalf of the Congress. It has nothing do with politics and is based purely on humanitarian grounds. I tried thrice to go to my home State but was refused permission. Almost one-third of Kashmiri people are lakhs who do labour to earn their daily livelihood and nobody is bothered to know how are they surviving,” he said.

“I have expressed concern about the plight of those people on humanitarian basis, being a native, and as a member of Parliament from Jammu and Kashmir. It has been 42 days…What are they eating, drinking and how are they surviving, this is a question to the State government, the central government and to the media as well,” he said.

In his petition before the top court, he has also sought permission to check on social conditions in the State after the clampdown imposed by the authorities in the aftermath of the revocation of provisions of Article 370.

Several opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, had sought to visit Jammu and Kashmir, but were not allowed to do so and were sent back from the airport itself.
