Bengaluru, 9 July 2025: In a first for India’s tax-tech landscape, ClearTax, the country’s leading tax filing platform by fintech company Clear, today announced the nationwide launch of ClearTax AI – a personal, Kannada-enabled, multilingual AI-powered tax assistant designed to make Income Tax Return (ITR) filing accessible, simple, and stress-free for every Indian, regardless of income source, geography, or digital fluency.

Tax filers can now file their taxes in under three minutes simply by chatting in their preferred language — 7 languages including, English, Kannada, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil and Bangla  through popular platforms like WhatsApp, Slack, Microsoft Teams, or the ClearTax website. Whether they are salaried professionals, gig workers, freelancers, or first-time filers, individuals can complete the entire process independently, without the need to decipher complex tax forms or depend on intermediaries.

ClearTax AI tackles long-standing roadblocks head-on simplifying tax jargon into plain language, automatically selecting the correct ITR form and regime, fetching up to 95% of required data directly from the Income Tax Department, applying all eligible deductions, and providing round-the-clock support across multiple Indian languages. Tax filers need only enter their PAN and upload their Form 16 and broker statements and the AI does the rest.

According to government data, over 7.28 crore returns were filed in AY 2024–25 (till 31st July 2024). Yet, over 56% of these were processed offline or with the help of intermediaries, pointing to a systemic issue – a lack of awareness, trust, and simplicity. This problem is especially acute in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where digital adoption remains limited due to language barriers and the perceived complexity of forms.

The launch of ClearTax AI also aligns with the recent government move to simplify tax filing for individuals with capital gains up to ₹1.25 lakh allowing them to use ITR-1 or ITR-4. The assistant is equipped to handle such policy changes automatically, ensuring taxpayers benefit from rule updates without needing to interpret legal fine print.

With this launch, ClearTax aims to bring 1 crore new tax filers into the fold over the next few years contributing to a more digitally confident and financially included India. For many, this will mark the first time they’ve filed taxes independently, without the need for agents, advisors or extensive paperwork.

ClearTax AI is live and available for use across supported platforms. The company plans to expand support to more regional languages and user segments in the coming months.
