44 Contract workers trained in Welding Safety at Deeksha: Ispat Suraksha Kaushal Kendra of SAIL, RSP

A Welding Safety Training was held at Deeksha : Ispat Suraksha Kaushal Kendra of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant on 29^th January, 2025 for 44 contract workers from different units of the plant.

The sessions covered different aspects like General Safety, Welding Machine Operation and Maintenance, safety aspects with regard to working with the Welding Machines and various Do’s and Don’t s of working with the equipments. Practical training on Welding was also conducted in the working model provided in the centre.

The sessions were conducted by Mr. S R Gochhayat, Regional Directorate (DTNBWE under Ministry of Labour and Employment) and Mr. Bhaktahari Mohapatra, Faculty for Welding Safety. On completion of the training, Certificates issued by DTNBWE were presented to the participants.

The programme was coordinated by Mr. Rajib Mukherjee, Senior Manager (HR-CLC), Mr. Vigyan Patra, Deputy Manager (HR- CLC) and HR-Contract Labour Cell collective.

It is to be mentioned here that the Centre aims at imparting training to contract workers and local populace for enriching skills towards eliminating unsafe practices at workplace. Along with the providing training, the purpose of the centre is also to develop a bank of skilled people in and around Rourkela with specialization in Behavioural Safety.

Contract workers trained in Gas Safety at ‘Deeksha’ : Ispat Suraksha Kaushal Kendra of SAIL, RSP

A one day training programme on ‘Gas Safety’, was organized at Deeksha : Ispat Suraksha Kaushal Kendra, Sector-5 of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant on 30^th August, 2024. 27 Contract workers engaged in various departments of the Plant attended the session. Mr. Rajib Mukherjee, Senior Manager (HR) handed over the certificates issued by DTNBWE to the Contract Labours on successful completion of the training.

The training programme included theoretical inputs on Gas Safety, Safety with regard to working near the gas lines and various Do’s and Don’t s of working in Gas lines.

The session was conducted by Mr. P N Mahato, Faculty in association with the Regional Directorate of DTNBWE under Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The programme was coordinated by Mr. Vigyan Patra, Deputy Manager (HR- CLC), Mr. S Sahoo, Junior Manager (HR-CLC) and Mr. Dhrubesh Behera, Labour Inspector and HR-Contract Labour Cell collective.

It is to be mentioned here that Deeksha: Ispat Suraksha Kaushal Kendra aims to impart training to Contract Labours and local populace for enriching skills towards mitigating unsafe practises at workplace. Along with providing training, the purpose was also to develop a bank of skilled people in and around Rourkela with specialized Behavioural Training in various areas.
