The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. T.G. Kanekar, CGM (TS & CSR), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He declared the tournament open. In his address, he encouraged the players to uphold the values of discipline and team spirit both on and off the field.

Dr. Nivedita Roy, General Manager (TS- Education) graced the concluding function and distributed medals to the winners and runners-up teams. The event was also attended by Father Joseph, Principal, St. Paul School, and Mr. Raghunandan Padhi, Deputy Manager (Sports).

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Sushreeta Das, Principal, Ispat English Medium School Sector- 20, setting a warm and enthusiastic tone for the day. Notably, Ispat English Medium School, Sector 20 hosted the event.

Mr. Raju Kant Saini, Mr. Avtar Kumar Dwivedi, Mr. Anil Kullu and Mr. Innocent Munda officiated the matches of the tournament.

Notably, in Odisha, there are 8 zones, and each year, talented players from across all zones actively participate in the CISCE Regional Tournaments, showcasing their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Mr. Manish Badaik, Chemistry Teacher of IEMS Sector- 20, was the master of the ceremony in the concluding ceremony. It is noteworthy that from this year, CISCE is also organising Hockey tournaments for girls.

Around 200 students attended the session, which aimed at educating young minds on maintaining hygiene, identifying mosquito breeding spots, and adopting simple yet effective practices to prevent the spread of the disease. Dr. Lavangare stressed the importance of the age-old saying, “Prevention is better than cure,” and encouraged students to remain vigilant and responsible in their surroundings. Dr. Lavangare also demonstrated the importance of early diagnosis and timely medical intervention.

The initiative was part of the ongoing efforts to promote health awareness and encourage proactive community participation in disease prevention. Mr. Rasananda Pradhan, Assistant Manager (PH) coordinated the function.

It is noteworthy that the Public Health Unit is carrying out a massive awareness campaign on dengue prevention in the steel township. A dedicated team of 21 trained Dengue Warriors from the plant has been deployed to carry out door-to-door awareness campaigns who have surveyed around 7000 quarters till date. To tackle mosquito breeding at the source, anti-larvae treatment and indoor spraying activities are being carried out across residential and vulnerable areas. Simultaneously, extensive bush cutting drives have been launched across all sectors to eliminate breeding grounds.

In his address, Mr. Kanekar emphasized the importance of sports in the life of young players for their physical and intellectual growth, fellow feeling and the spirit of participation.

Dr. Roy encouraged the young players to pursue both curricular and extracurricular activities for their holistic growth.

The winners in different categories were St. Paul’s School (Under-14), St. John Mary Vianny English School, Kutra (Under 17), and Ispat E M School, Sector 20 (Under 19). While Don Bosco English Med School, Kuarmunda won the runners up in both Under 14 and Under 17 and Desouza’s School was the Runners up in Under 19 category. At the end, Mr. Kanekar declared the tournament closed.

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated on 1^st July, 2025 by Mr. B K Jojo, CGM (Town Engineering & Horticulture) in the presence of Dr. (Mrs.) Nivedita Roy , Dr. Sushreeta Das, Principal, IEMS, Sector-20, Mr. S. N. Panda and other Senior Officers of the plant.

Notably, 24 teams from the zone participated in different categories. The teachers and staff of IEMS, Sector- 22 provided support for the conduct of the tournament.

From the very first day, the children have been immersed in the many layers of dramatic art such as voice modulation exercises that include mimicking snakes, lizards, and monkeys to body movements that portray vivid scenes like fishermen casting nets into the river. The emotional expressions are raw and heartfelt, and the process of character development has introduced these budding artists to the depth and discipline of theatre.

Theatre games have added fun to focus, building teamwork, concentration, and a sense of camaraderie. Movement and voice training sessions emphasize breath control, articulation, and expressive motion, ensuring the students not only speak their lines but live them. The workshop also brings India’s rich folk and traditional theatre forms to life, transporting students into the heart of rural India with stories that resonate with simplicity, emotion, and heritage.

At the heart of this initiative lies a deeper purpose of bringing to light the lives of unsung heroes of India’s freedom movement. This spirit of patriotism was beautifully showcased during the Tiranga Yatra, where 41 enthusiastic students marched with the tricolor in hand, chanting patriotic slogans and igniting the school campus and the surrounding with a vibrant sense of national pride.

The workshop, part of NSD’s nationwide initiative to nurture young talent and promote theatre education, is not merely an acting class but a transformative experience.  With more exciting days ahead, many more things are yet to unfold grooming the young talents of Rourkela of dazzle and shine.

The DIC inaugurated the Diamond Jubilee monument, designed and fabricated by Design department and Fabrication Shop.

The school flag was also unfurled by the DIC after which the School Prayer ” Where the mind is without Fear” was sung by the students. Kicking off the Diamond Jubilee, the DIC released baloons of different colours. He was welcomed by traditional Munda Dance performed by a tribal group.
