Ms. Rupinder Brar, Additional Secretary and Nominated Authority, Ministry of Coal, led the Indian delegation at the 106th IOC Meeting of the World Mining Congress held at JIEXPO, Jakarta. As Chairperson of the Executive Committee of INC-WMC, she is actively involved in promoting sustainable mining technologies globally.

During the meeting, Ms. Brar briefed delegates on India’s mining sector, emphasizing business opportunities in coal and non-coal segments, prospects for international collaboration on rare and critical minerals, and potential partnerships with India.

In a moment of national pride, she was elected Vice-Chairperson of the World Mining Congress—marking a historic first for India and the first time a woman has held this esteemed position.

Government Appoints Interim Chairmen for IOC and HPCL Amid Ongoing Search for Permanent Heads”

The government has appointed interim chairmen for Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) as the search for full-time heads continues. Satish Kumar Vaduguri, Director (Marketing) at IOC, will serve as interim chairman for three months starting September 1, 2024, replacing Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, whose extended term ends on August 31.

Similarly, Rajneesh Narang, Director (Finance) at HPCL, has been named interim Chairman and Managing Director for three months, succeeding Pushp Kumar Joshi, who retires on August 31 upon reaching the age of 60.

A three-member search-cum-selection committee, led by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) chairperson, is overseeing the appointment process for permanent heads at both companies. The committee is reportedly considering Sandeep Gupta, current CMD of GAIL and former Director (Finance) at IOC, for the IOC chairman role. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet is currently vetting his candidacy.

IOC Global Capital Management IFSC Limited carries out first transaction at GIFT City

IndianOil’s subsidiary, IOC Global Capital Management IFSC Limited (IGCMIL), marked its inaugural transaction at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, raising a $100 million loan from DBS Bank Singapore.
The funds will refinance IndianOil’s existing External Commercial Borrowing (ECB) loan. This aligns with IFSC Gift City’s vision of attracting foreign capital to India and easing the burden on the Indian Banking Industry.
IndianOil’s Chairman, Mr Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, emphasized IGCMIL’s role in optimizing overseas investments, enhancing the company’s global footprint, and securing energy supply chains. IGCMIL plans to facilitate foreign investments for IndianOil’s expansive capital expenditure, including ventures in ship acquisition, financing, and leasing.

The Petroleum and natural gas ministry has proposed that Indian Oil Corporation chairman SM Vaidya be given an additional tenure of two years after August when he turns 60 and is scheduled to retire. PESB rejected all ten candidates it had interviewed for the position of IOC chairman on May 16 and advised the ministry to seek an alternative selection mechanism, setting off speculation that Vaidya could get an extension.
