DGCA Orders 10% Cut In IndiGo’s Winter Schedule Flight Operations

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, DGCA has directed IndiGo to reduce its Winter Schedule 2025 operations by 10 per cent across sectors, citing significant flight disruptions and the airline’s inability to efficiently operate the approved schedule.

The airline watchdog said in a notice that IndiGo was approved for 64 thousand 346 flights in November this year but it operated 59 thousand 438 flights and recorded 951 cancellations.

Despite being allowed a 6 percent schedule enhancement with 403 aircraft for the season, IndiGo deployed only 344 aircraft in November. The DGCA asked Indigo to submit a revised schedule by 5 PM today.

DGCA Reviews IndiGo Reply on Flight Disruptions and Cancellations

NEW DELHI – The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has received and is reviewing IndiGo’s response to the show-cause notice issued over recent large-scale flight disruptions and cancellations across its network. The airline expressed regret and apologised to passengers, attributing the disruption to an unfortunate and unforeseeable combination of multiple factors. DGCA said it is examining the reply and will take appropriate enforcement action in due course. Meanwhile, IndiGo stated that refunds amounting to over ?827 crore have been processed, with the balance under way for cancellations up to the 15th of the month, over 4,500 bags have been returned to customers, and more than 1,800 flights are being operated to restore network connectivity.

Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 will resume full operations from April 15

All flights currently operating from Terminal 2 (T2) will be relocated to T1. Currently, Terminal 2 handles approximately 270-280 air traffic movements and serves over 46,000 passengers per day. Domestic air traffic grows to 16.13 cr in 2024

India’s domestic air traffic reached 16.13 crore in 2024, marking a 6 per cent increase year-on-year. Airlines expanded their fleets and networks to meet growing demand. IndiGo led with a 64.4 per cent market share, followed by Air India at 26.4 per cent. December witnessed flight cancellations and delays impacting passengers, with significant compensation provided.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Wednesday said airlines carried over 1.49 crore passengers in December 2024, an increase of 8.19 per cent compared to December 2023 when it stood at nearly 1.38 crore.
