According to MeitY, the initiative aligns with the IndiaAI Mission, where skilling is one of seven core pillars, and combines instructor-led training, micro- and nano-credentials, and nationwide outreach. New Delhi, April 30: In a major step towards realising India’s ambition to become a global AI powerhouse, Saras AI Institute – world’s first AI-exclusive 100% online degree-granting higher education institute based in the US – has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT BHU).

Through this MoU, Saras will offer its foundational 8-week course, “Powers of AI”, as an open elective for IIT BHU students. This course offers an entry point into the world of AI with no prior coding or math experience required. Designed in a project-based format, the programme introduces students to core AI domains, including machine learning, generative AI, deep learning and prompt engineering. Instead of traditional exams, students will develop real-world projects — building practical skills that prepare them for high-impact roles in the AI-driven future. It is designed to be a practical starting point for students who want to understand and participate in this space.

The course also aims to build a foundation in ethical and responsible use of AI—an area of growing importance as the technology becomes more integrated into business operations and everyday life.

Through this initiative, Saras reaffirms the institute’s commitment to nurturing India’s AI talent pool, critical for achieving the government’s ambitious target of creating one million AI professionals by 2026.

Furthering its vision, Saras and IIT BHU will also co-develop the innovative “AI Evaluator”, a cutting-edge AI-powered assessment tool. This will allow real-time student progress tracking, deliver deep learning insights and simplify evaluations — a crucial enabler for scaling quality education in a rapidly digitalising Bharat.

The MoU also lays the foundation for flexible learning pathways for students and establishes a credit exchange programme. This will enable all students across all disciplines to pursue a Minor in AI online, explore Associate Degree opportunities and earn industry-recognised AI certifications through Saras AI Institute’s digital campus.

The MoU also includes joint research opportunities, guest lectures AI hackathons, workshops and representation at IIT BHU-led academic and industry events.

इस पार्टनरशिप का मकसद है AI एजुकेशन को ज्यादा accessible बनाना, इंडस्ट्री और एजुकेशन के बीच का gap भरना और आने वाले सालों में भारत को “Viksit Bharat 2047” विज़न की ओर ले जाना।

Saras और IIT BHU मिलकर एक नया 8-सप्ताह का कोर्स लॉन्च करेंगे — “Powers of AI”, जो किसी भी स्टूडेंट के लिए खुला रहेगा, भले ही वो किसी भी स्ट्रीम से हो — इंजीनियरिंग, ह्यूमैनिटीज़ या कुछ और। इस कोर्स के लिए न कोडिंग का अनुभव ज़रूरी है और न ही Math की गहरी समझ। ये कोर्स प्रोजेक्ट-बेस्ड होगा, जिसमें स्टूडेंट्स रियल-लाइफ प्रोजेक्ट्स बनाएंगे — थ्योरी की बजाय रियल स्किल्स पर फोकस रहेगा।

As part of this strategic partnership, Microsoft and IndiaAI plan to skill 500,000 individuals by 2026. The initiative will include students, educators, developers, government officials, and women entrepreneurs, ensuring a diverse and inclusive approach to AI education and empowerment. Additionally, the partnership will establish “AI Catalysts,” a Center of Excellence, to foster rural AI innovation in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Through hackathons, community-building efforts, and an AI marketplace, the initiative aims to equip 100,000 AI innovators and developers.

To further expand AI learning, 20 AI Productivity Labs will be set up in National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) and NIELIT centers across 10 states. These labs will train 20,000 educators and provide foundational AI courses to 100,000 students in 200 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The collaboration will also focus on developing AI solutions for critical sectors by leveraging Microsoft Research (MSR)’s expertise.

Microsoft’s Founders Hub program will extend its resources to up to 1,000 AI startups under the IndiaAI Mission. Startups will benefit from Azure credits, business resources, and mentorship, fostering innovation and strengthening India’s startup ecosystem. Furthermore, the partnership will work on developing foundational AI models with Indic language support to address India’s linguistic diversity and unique cultural requirements.

A robust datasets platform will be developed to support IndiaAI’s objectives, including tools for dataset curation, annotation, and synthetic data generation. The partnership will also focus on creating frameworks, standards, and evaluation metrics for responsible AI development. This effort will support the establishment of an AI Safety Institute in India, ensuring the ethical and secure use of AI technologies.

The collaboration between IndiaAI and Microsoft reflects a shared vision of leveraging AI for inclusive and sustainable development. By prioritizing skilling, fostering entrepreneurship, and advancing responsible AI practices, the partnership aims to address large-scale challenges, empower communities, and position India as a global leader in AI innovation and adoption.
