Itanagar, The India Research Tour 2025, one of India’s most ambitious and influential research outreach initiatives by Springer Nature, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, concluded today at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU). The tour also engaged with the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Itanagar, marking the final leg of a month-long journey that began in New Delhi on 6 October.

During the course of its journey, the tour engaged with researchers, policymakers, and academia. It focused on advancing Open Access and Open Science, strengthening research integrity through the Research Integrity in Science and Education (RISE) program, encouraging e-book adoption, supporting editorial board member recruitment, and promoting diversity and inclusion in research through initiatives such as Her Research, Our Future.

Speaking on the occasion, Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi, Managing Director, Springer Nature India, said:

“As the India Research Tour 2025 concludes in Itanagar, we are inspired by the immense research potential and enthusiasm we have witnessed across India — especially here in the Northeast. The conversations and collaborations from this tour have given us a deep understanding of researchers’ needs, institutional priorities, and regional opportunities. This learning will guide Springer Nature in strengthening our engagement with India’s research ecosystem and in creating solutions that truly empower every researcher, everywhere.”

Over the past several weeks, the India Research Tour 2025 traversed key academic and research institutions across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Assam, before reaching its final destination in Arunachal Pradesh. In total, the tour covered 29 institutions across 15 cities and 7 states, fostering conversations on Open Access and Open Science, research integrity, diversity and inclusion, and sustainable development.

The inclusion of institutions from the Northeast—particularly Arunachal Pradesh—highlights Springer Nature’s and the Ministry of Education’s commitment to making India’s research ecosystem more inclusive, ensuring that researchers from all regions, including those traditionally underrepresented, have access to global platforms, tools, and networks.

Professor Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) — and an alumnus of Rajiv Gandhi University — said:

“It is a matter of pride to see the India Research Tour conclude here at my alma mater, Rajiv Gandhi University. The inclusion of institutions from the Northeast in this initiative is a powerful step toward bridging the representation gap in national and global research dialogues. By connecting with researchers in this region, we not only recognize their contributions but also create pathways for greater collaboration, visibility, and impact. The Northeast’s diversity, cultural richness, and intellectual strength make it a vital part of India’s research future.”

The key pillars of India Research Tour 2025 included:

Promoting Open Access (OA) and advancing awareness of One Nation, One Subscription (ONOS).

Driving discussions on Research Integrity and the role of Artificial Intelligence in publishing.

Highlighting diversity and inclusion through initiatives such as Her Research, Our Future and the Research Ambassador Program.

Supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by democratizing knowledge and strengthening accessibility.

Throughout the journey, the India Research Tour 2025 facilitated workshops, panel discussions, and interactions designed to strengthen awareness of ethical research practices, promote the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative, and encourage participation in global open science movements.

The tour’s conclusion in Arunachal Pradesh symbolizes the growing inclusivity and reach of India’s research ecosystem. The insights gathered from over a month of engagement will help Springer Nature and its partners deepen their role in advancing India’s vision of a more open, ethical, and globally connected research landscape.
