The Minister also noted passenger-friendly initiatives such as UDAN Yatri Café, Flybrary, free Wi-Fi and Kids Zones, and congratulated AAI staff for their contribution towards making the organization a world-class airport developer and operator.

Ministry of Civil Aviation Constitutes New “Helicopter Cell” to Drive Sectoral Growth

NEW DELHI. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved the formation of a specialized “Helicopter Cell” through an official order dated March 18, 2026. Chaired by the Joint Secretary of the Domestic Transport Division, the cell includes key members from the AAI, BCAS, Pawan Hans, and the Rotary Wing Society of India. This dedicated body is tasked with identifying and resolving operational bottlenecks, facilitating stakeholder coordination, and suggesting policy reforms to modernize the vertical flight industry. By addressing emerging challenges and streamlining regulations, the initiative aims to foster sustainable growth and enhance the ease of doing business within India’s aviation sector. This strategic move marks a significant step toward making helicopter operations a more integral part of the national transport framework.

Ministry Of Civil Aviation Mandates Airlines To Allocate Minimum 60% Seats Free Of Charge For Fair Access

The government has directed the airlines to allocate minimum 60 per cent of seats for selection on any flight free of charge to ensure fair access for the passengers. The Ministry of Civil Aviation today issued directions through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to strengthen passenger convenience, transparency and uniformity of practices across airlines.

The Ministry directed that passengers travelling on the same PNR must be seated together, preferably in adjacent seats. It added that the carriage of sports equipment and musical instruments should be facilitated in a transparent and passenger-friendly manner. The Airlines have also been instructed to bring out clear, transparent policies for the carriage of pets.

Meanwhile, strict adherence to passenger rights framework, particularly in cases of delays, cancellations and denied boarding has also been directed by the government. The Ministry also called for prominent display of passenger rights across airline websites, mobile applications, booking platforms, and airport counters. Airlines are also instructed to ensure clear communication of passenger entitlements in regional languages for wider accessibility and awareness.

AAIB Clarifies Investigation Status of AI-171 Accident ; Media Reports Speculative

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has clarified that reports claiming the investigation into the Air India Flight AI-171 accident has been finalized are incorrect and speculative. The investigation remains ongoing, and no conclusive findings have been reached at this stage. Conducted strictly under the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2025, and in accordance with ICAO Annex 13 obligations, the process is technical and evidence-based, focusing on identifying root causes and improving safety. The preliminary report released earlier provided factual information available at that time, and the final investigation report, which will include conclusions and safety recommendations, will be published only after the investigation’s completion, following international norms. The AAIB urges media outlets to exercise restraint and avoid premature speculation, as unverified reports can cause public anxiety and undermine the integrity of the ongoing investigation. The bureau remains committed to transparency, procedural integrity, and upholding the highest standards of aviation safety.
