NEW DELHI. Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Sanjiv Kumar Singh, has been honoured with the prestigious Bhaskar Bhattacharjee Memorial Award by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The award was presented recently , during Basant ’26, the institute’s flagship annual event, in recognition of his distinguished leadership in India’s mining and metals sector.

The recognition by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad highlights Shri Singh’s role in driving innovation and responsible growth in the mining industry, aligning with national priorities related to mineral security, energy transition and sustainable industrial development.

Shri Nripendra Nath, assumed charge as Director(Technical), CMPDI.

Shri Nripendra Nath has assumed charge as Director (Technical) of CMPDI, bringing extensive experience from his diverse roles in the coal industry. An IIT (ISM), Dhanbad graduate of 1988, he has contributed significantly to projects like the World Bank-aided KDH Project and held key positions including Project Officer and Area General Manager at various mines of ECL and CCL, notably helping Magadh-Sanghmitra Area join the 20 Mte production club. A SIMTARS-accredited trainer with international exposure, he has been actively involved in mine safety initiatives and formulation of Safety Management Plans, leveraging his global experience to promote best practices in India’s mining sector. His expertise is expected to greatly benefit CMPDI and CIL in advancing safe and efficient mining operations.

Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC has been bestowed with the prestigious “Basant Sammaan” award by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad during its Centenary year Basant Sammelan recently. The award recognises the highest level of excellence by an individual in their respective fields that has brought glory to the nation. The award was bestowed in absentia. Shri Animesh Jain, RED (Coal Mining) and CEO (NML) joined virtually and addressed the gathering on behalf of CMD, NTPC.

The functions were attended by eminent personalities, distinguished faculty members and IIT ISM Alma Mater from India & abroad. Coal India Ltd to establish the Centre of Excellence for Mining

Coal India Ltd. and IIT-ISM Dhanbad have signed a MoU to establish the Centre of Excellence for Mining at IIT(ISM), Dhanbad. The new center will collaborate with the forthcoming National Centre for Coal and Energy Research (NaCCER) at Coal India’s subsidiary CMPDIL in Ranchi. The MoU was signed at Coal India’s corporate office in Kolkata in the presence of Chairman Shri P.M. Prasad. Signatories included Dr. B. Veera Reddy, Director Technical, Coal India, and Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT(ISM). The initiative aims to advance research capabilities and foster innovation in the mining sector.
