Bengaluru, December 9, 2025: The 10th India Water Impact Summit (IWIS), jointly organised by c-Ganga (Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies, IIT Kanpur) and the National Mission for Clean Ganga, opens today at the FITT auditorium at IIT Delhi. The three-day summit (December 9–11, 2025) will focus on the theme “From Segmented Efforts to Holistic Stewardship: Forging District River Management Plans for India’s Water Future.”

The summit will bring together environmental scientists, researchers, and representatives from government and non-government organizations working in the fields of water and river conservation, both from India and abroad. During the Overview Session on the first day, the Framework for Ganga River Basin Management 2.0 (GRBMP 2.0) prepared by cGanga will also be released.

Throughout the summit, experts will discuss a range of topics related to district-level river management plans, including liquid waste management, stormwater drainage, and the development of local surface water bodies.

Explaining the central theme, Dr. Vinod Tare, Founding Head of c-Ganga, stated that the District River Management Project is envisioned as a comprehensive plan for managing all human activities within a district’s geographical boundaries. Its primary objective is to ensure that the ecological status of a river is maintained or improved as it flows through and exits the district.

Parallel to the India Water Impact Summit, the Climate Investment and Technology Impact Summit (CITIS) will be held in another auditorium. Now in its third year, this summit will host industry and business leaders, investors, civil society representatives, and subject-matter experts working in the environmental sector. Participants will also include companies deploying new environmental technologies, startups, and industrialists interested in adopting innovative solutions for traditional industries. Key discussion areas include the market for treated wastewater, sludge management, and the economics of biogas.

The India Water Impact Summit is regarded as one of the most prestigious and anticipated events in the environment and climate domain. Students and faculty from IITs, NITs, and other technical institutions across the country actively take part. The summit serves as a platform that fosters communication and collaboration among senior administrative officials, technical experts, NGO representatives, and young environmental activists.

NEW DELHI. India’s Ministry of Tribal Affairs has launched the beta version of ‘Adi Vaani’, the country’s first artificial intelligence-powered translator for tribal languages, to preserve indigenous heritage and enhance access to education, healthcare, and governance. Developed by a consortium led by IIT Delhi, the platform initially supports Santali, Bhili, Mundari, and Gondi, with Kui and Garo in progress. The service is live at [https://adivaani.tribal.gov.in](https://adivaani.tribal.gov.in), with a mobile version coming soon. Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey said the initiative would help bridge communication gaps in remote communities and empower tribal youth, while Secretary Vibhu Nayar described it as a cost-effective innovation developed at one-tenth the cost of commercial alternatives, using linguistic data from state Tribal Research Institutes.

Adi Vaani offers real-time translation between Hindi, English, and tribal languages, digitizes folklore and oral traditions, and provides subtitled advisories, including health messages and speeches. Featuring a feedback system for community participation and continuous improvement, the platform aligns with key national missions such as Digital India, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, PM JANMAN, Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, and Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan. Expected to empower over 20 lakh tribal change leaders, the initiative represents a major step toward building an inclusive, knowledge-driven Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Bengaluru, October 09, 2024: In an era where innovation is the driving force behind business success, design thinking has emerged as a key strategy for companies looking to gain a competitive edge. According to the 2023 Design Management Institute Report, design-led companies outperform their competitors by 211%, while a McKinsey study from the same year reveals a 32% revenue boost for firms with strong design practices. Addressing the increasing demand for innovative problem-solving approaches, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, ranked #2 among Engineering Colleges in India (NIRF 2024), has launched its Certificate Programme in Design Thinking and Innovation. This five-month online programme is set to empower professionals by combining the time-tested principles of design thinking with skills of creativity and frugal innovation.

According to Deloitte’s 2023 Global Design Thinking Report, companies that have fully integrated design thinking into their innovation processes have achieved 50% faster time to market for new products and services and experienced 70% higher customer engagement. The report further highlights that businesses leveraging design thinking are 2.5 times more likely to see revenue growth compared to those that do not. In response to this growing demand for innovation-driven approaches, IIT Delhi’s programme is designed to equip professionals with the necessary skills to stay competitive in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The Design Thinking and Innovation Programme is specifically crafted for creative managers, product developers, entrepreneurs, business consultants, and senior executives who are tasked with driving innovation and creating impactful, customer-centric solutions. This programme doesn’t just focus on the traditional design thinking process of empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping, and testing—it takes innovation a step further by bringing in 2 classes on Generative AI, offering participants tools to enhance creativity, streamline processes, and deliver faster, more effective solutions.

Participants will engage with a curriculum that covers key topics essential for today’s innovators. The programme includes Human-Centred Design (HCD) for addressing real-world user needs, Iterative Design and Sustainability to foster continuous innovation, and Agile Design and Data-Driven Innovation for leveraging data in creative problem-solving. Additionally, participants will master Prototyping and Ideation techniques and learn Storytelling and Visualisation to effectively communicate their ideas. This well-rounded curriculum equips professionals with the skills needed to drive innovation in a rapidly evolving landscape.

A standout feature of the programme is its two masterclasses on Generative AI, where participants will dive deep into how AI can transform design thinking processes. They will apply AI-driven insights for product development, customer experience design, and business innovation, equipping them to generate creative solutions more efficiently and make a significant impact in the marketplace.

Led by Professor Vijayaraghavan M. Chariar, an award-winning expert in Design for Sustainability, Frugal Innovation, and Traditional Knowledge Systems, the programme offers the guidance of a seasoned leader in the field of sustainable innovation. With over two decades of experience, including entrepreneurial ventures like Ekam Eco Solutions, Prof. Chariar will provide participants with insights into integrating design thinking with advanced AI tools, helping them drive impactful and sustainable innovation.

The programme places a strong emphasis on practical application, offering participants the chance to work on real-world projects in collaboration with industry partners. This hands-on experience ensures that participants are not only equipped with theoretical knowledge but are also ready to apply cutting-edge AI tools and design thinking strategies to actual business challenges. By working on these real-world applications, participants will be prepared to take on leadership roles in their organizations.

Programme Highlights:

Duration: 5 months of immersive online learning, starting on December 20, 2024.

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) slipped 11 spots in Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings 2020-21 released on Tuesday (June 9).

Only three institutes from India managed to find a place in top 200 in QS World Rankings this year. The Indian institutes in the list are IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and IISc Bangalore. It may be recalled that IIT Delhi was ranked 182 in 2019 and it fell down to 193 this year.

IIT Delhi director Ramgopal Rao tweeted a letter asking people not to trust the rankings blindly and share some facts. According to Rao, the QS Rankings consider International faculty and students in the institute which is very low for IIT Delhi. He added that in 2019 rankings international students were below the global median and there was a need to hire the faculty. Rao said that IIT Delhi needs to hire 69 international faculty and 820 international students to be close to the global median.

The rankings are based on six indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty/student ratio, international faculty ratio and international student ratio, compilers of the rankings said.

IIT Bombay is ranked 172nd, while IISc is 185th and IIT Delhi is at 193rd place. A total of 21 Indian higher education institutions are in the top 1000. IISc is ranked as India’s best research university with a score of 100/100 on the ‘citations per faculty’ indicator.

Other IITs in the top 500 are: Madras (275), Kharagpur (314), Kanpur (350), Roorkee (383) and Guwahati (470).

Massachusetts Institute of Technology is ranked as the world’s best university, followed by Stanford University (2nd) and Harvard University (3rd).
