Joins Forces with Tata Motors and State Govt

NAGPUR, January 29, 2026 : Imagine a village where every development plan is backed by expert research, where local youth are trained like professional managers, and where government schemes reach the right person at the right time. This is the vision behind a new partnership between the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, Tata Motors Foundation (TMF), and the Government of Maharashtra.

The three organizations have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch IVDP 2.0 (Integrated Village Development Programme 2.0). The goal is simple: to turn rural Maharashtra into a model of success using modern management techniques.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Bhimaraya Metri (Director, IIM Nagpur) and Vinod Kulkarni (CEO, Tata Motors Foundation). The ceremony took place in the presence of Priya Khan from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Government of Maharashtra, and Prof. Anoop Kumar, IAS (Retd.) and currently Professor of Practice at IIM Nagpur. On this momentous occasion, Col. Makarand Alur (CAO, IIM Nagpur) and Prof. Neelkanth Dhone were also present.

While the Tata Motors Foundation provides the funding and the government provides administrative support and leadership, IIM Nagpur will serve as the Knowledge Partner for the project. Additionally, IIM Nagpur will work alongside YASHADA (the State’s training institute) to train field staff, ensuring that government schemes reach the doorsteps of the underprivileged without delay.

Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur, stated: “We don’t want our expertise to stay only inside classrooms. Through this initiative, IIM Nagpur is going directly to the doorsteps of farmers and rural families. We are bringing world-class management to the village level to ensure every child gets a better education and every farmer gets better support”.

Mr. Vinod Kulkarni noted that to enhance the quality and scientific rigor of this initiative, they are seeking IIM Nagpur’s engagement in providing inputs to strengthen and refine the planning process for Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) formulation, validating the final GPDPs, and undertaking a comprehensive impact assessment after three years of implementation.

Prof. Anoop Kumar added that the institute’s role is to ensure these villages become self-reliant. “We are creating a ‘success formula’ that can be used to develop any village in India, starting right here in Maharashtra”.

Priya Khan emphasized the State Government’s commitment to aligning flagship programs with ground-level needs. “This collaboration ensures that the IVDP 2.0 model remains transparent, efficient, and perfectly aligned with our state’s development priorities”.

Boost to Green Energy target of country

Nagpur, December 20:

In a nationally significant move aligned with India’s clean energy ambitions, the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur and ONGC Green Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on December 20 to collaborate on research, capacity building, and policy-driven initiatives in the field of green and future energy.

The MoU was signed on behalf of IIM Nagpur by its Director, Prof Bhimaraya Metri, and on behalf of ONGC Green Limited by its Chief Operating Officer, Harsh Nupur Joshi.

Senior faculty members of IIM Nagpur Prof. Alok Kumar Singh, Dean – Executive Education Programmes and Prof. Nikunj Kumar Jain, Chairperson of the Executive MBA in Energy Management, were present. On behalf of the ONGC, Deepak Kumar, GM (Electrical), was present.

Speaking on the occasion, Joshi said the energy sector is undergoing a rapid transformation. “Our aim is to work together to support India’s net-zero target by 2070. We intend to take up projects in energy storage, biofuels, and future energy solutions such as green hydrogen, which is going to be a game changer for India,” he said.

Dr. Metri said that India’s progress in green energy is being closely observed globally. “The world will be watching India’s initiatives towards sustainable and green energy. IIM Nagpur is proud to be associated with ONGC Green in this important national mission. Through this collaboration, we aim to contribute research, leadership, and policy insights that can shape India’s future energy ecosystem,” he said.

Under the MoU, the two institutions will jointly work on key areas such as environmental sustainability and ESG frameworks, renewable energy integration into power systems, carbon and green credit markets, energy storage, e-mobility policies, and leadership development. The collaboration will combine IIM Nagpur’s academic and policy expertise with ONGC Green’s operational experience in the renewable energy sector.

The outcomes of this partnership are expected to directly benefit common citizens by supporting cleaner and more reliable power, promoting affordable and sustainable energy solutions, generating green jobs, and contributing to healthier living conditions. By strengthening India’s green energy ecosystem, the IIM Nagpur–ONGC Green collaboration aims to play a meaningful role in meeting the country’s future energy needs while ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth.

ONGC Green is the renewable energy arm of Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, leading the organisation’s ambitious plan to achieve 10 GW of green energy capacity by 2030 through solar, wind, energy storage, biofuels, and green hydrogen projects. The partnership with IIM Nagpur is expected to provide strong academic and policy support to these efforts, while also contributing to India’s broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

Nagpur, November 17, 2025| The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur on Monday launched its Case Research Centre (CRC), a facility that will help improve how managers, businesses, and public institutions learn from real-life Indian examples. The Centre will develop case studies on Indian companies, start-ups, government projects, and social organisations, making management education more meaningful and relevant to India’s needs.

With this launch, IIM Nagpur has become the fourth IIM in the country—after IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, and IIM Bangalore— to establish a dedicated Case Research Centre. IIM-N has collaborated with Ivey Publishing, world’s second-largest producer of management case studies for this centre.

Senior faculty members, students, and officials of IIM Nagpur attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the inauguration, Violetta Gallagher emphasized the global relevance of the new Centre. “This is not just the opening of a Case Centre; we’re opening new pathways for collaboration, storytelling, and impact—in India, at Ivey, and around the world,” she said. Gallagher described the Centre as a “story engine” capable of capturing the unique narratives emerging from India’s dynamic business environment.

In his address, Prof. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, highlighted the Centre’s significance in strengthening India’s presence in management scholarship. “India is the next big thing. “IIM Nagpur and Ivey—along with other partners—can co-create cases that travel between classrooms in India, Canada, and the world, sparking conversations that cross borders and disciplines,” he said.

Delivering the introductory remarks, Prof. Rakesh Gupta, Chairperson of the Centre, called the launch “a dream come true.” “We are now the fourth IIM in India to have such a Centre, and its benefits are already reaching other B-schools.

Participants from 16 states in IIM-N for Executive MBA in Energy Management

Nagpur, November 16, 2025 | “Energy is real power, and India’s development journey depends on skilled energy managers,” said Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, while inaugurating the institute’s first-of-its-kind Executive MBA in Energy Management on Sunday (November 16). This specialized course for working professionals in the field of Energy management is offered in collaboration with National Power Training Institute (NPTI).

The inauguration marked a national milestone, with the first batch representing 16 states across India, underlining the wide national demand for advanced energy education. Of the 168 applicants, 43 working professionals were selected for the inaugural cohort.

Dr. Tripta Thakur, Vice Chancellor of Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University and former Director of NPTI—who conceptualized this program— was chief guest for the event. Prof. Nikunj Kumar Jain, Chairperson – EMBA-EM, Prof. Prashant Gupta, Dean (Faculty & Academics), and Dr. Indu Maheshwari, Principal Director, NPTI, were present on the dais.

Delivering the Keynote Address, Dr. Thakur, said India has made tremendous progress in power access. “We have achieved electricity for all, but the next target is 24×7 quality power for all,” she said. India has increased its generation capacity from 100 GW to 500 GW in recent years and aims to double this in the next 10–15 years. She highlighted a major national achievement: 51% of India’s installed power capacity now comes from renewable sources.

“With a net-zero target set for 2070, the participants of this MBA will be the professionals who understand energy, environment, and management together. They will become the future leaders the sector urgently needs,” she added.

Earlier, Dr Metri emphasized that India is entering an era of unprecedented growth, where massive economic expansion, rising per-capita power consumption, and the vision of Viksit Bharat demand a highly capable workforce trained in energy leadership and modern management.

Calling it a “benchmark first batch,” Dr. Metri highlighted that no business school in India has launched such a specialized MBA, and IIM Nagpur is now positioned to train the future managers who will shape India’s power ecosystem. “We are adding nearly a trillion dollars to our economy every year, and by 2047 India will be a 35–40 trillion-dollar economy. Such growth requires clean, reliable and abundant energy, and that demands perpetual learning,” he said, stressing that the age of big data and advanced analytics will further increase productivity across the sector.

This MBA aims to produce leaders who can drive India’s goals of clean, affordable, and reliable energy access, said Prof. Nikunj Kumar Jain, Chairperson of this course while presenting an overview.

“The batch reflects strong diversity with 55% participants from public sector and 45% from private sector. Out of all, 50% are from power generation & distribution sector, 25% from renewable energy & sustainability, 10% from oil & gas and Remaining from consulting, minerals, and entrepreneurship,” he said.

Regarding Work experience, 45% of the participants have 5–10 years of experience while significant 27% are having with 10 to 15 years of executive experience in the field. Major organizations include Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (9), Damodar Valley Corporation (3), NTPC (3), IOCL (1), Mittal Nippon Steel (2), and others.

Dr. Indu Maheshwari, Principal Director, NPTI, delivered the closing remarks. With this launch, IIM Nagpur positions itself as a pioneering institution committed to producing high-impact energy managers for India’s sustainable and prosperous future.
