With this, the Recovery Rate has improved to 93.42% today.72.87% of the recovered cases reported in the last 24 hours are from ten States/UTs.Kerala saw the greatest number of recoveries as 6,567 confirmed cases tested negative.

West Bengal registered 4,376 daily recoveries while Delhi reported another 3,560 of them.75.14%of the new cases have been reported from ten states/UTsDelhi which saw a surge in new cases over the last few days reported only 3,797 new cases yesterday, followed by West Bengal which reported 3,012 new cases. Kerala recorded 2,710 new cases.78.40% of the 449 new deaths are concentrated in ten States/UTs.More than a fifth, 22.76% of new fatalities reported are from Delhi which reported 99 deaths.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 8,44,382 samples for COVID-19 were tested on November 16 while a total of 12,65,42,907 samples tested so far.

Doubling COVID-19 testing capacity to 1 to 1.2 lakh and increasing ICU beds to over 6,000 are among the decisions taken by the government to tackle the spike in coronavirus infections in Delhi, the Centre said. A decision has also been taken to increase house to house surveillance of active cases in containment zones and other vulnerable pockets for which 7,000-8,000 teams will be put on this exercise, an increase from the existing 3,000 teams that are currently involved.

Active caseload only 10.70%

India has leaped across a significant milestone in its fight against COVID. The active caseload of the country has fallen below 8 lakh for the first time after one and a half months.

The total positive cases of the country today are 7,95,087. They comprise merely 10.70% of the total cases. The active caseload was below the 8L mark (7,85,996) last on 1st September.

With a high number of COVID patients recovering every day, India’s steady trend of registering dipping active cases continues.

the Health Ministry said this morning when the country’s Covid tally surged to 74.3 lakh after 62,212 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases dropped to 7.95 lakh today as 70,816 patients fought off COVID-19 since yesterday. According to government data, the active caseload is now only 10.70 per cent of the tally. “This significant achievement is the outcome of central government-led targetted strategies leading to high number of recoveries and steadily falling number of fatalities,” the Health Ministry has said.

India is also reporting a high number of recoveries. The total recovered cases have crossed 65 lakhs (65,24,595). The difference between active cases and recovered cases is consistently increasing and stands at 57,29,508 today.

70,816 patients have recovered and discharged in the last 24 hours whereas the new confirmed cases are 62,212. The national Recovery Rate has further grown to 87.78%

Enhanced countrywide medical infrastructure, implementation of the Centre’s Standard Treatment Protocol by the States/UTs, and total dedication & commitment of doctors, paramedics and frontline workers have led to a persistent increase in the number of total recoveries with commensurate dip in the fatality rate. India is the only country with the highest recoveries and continues to have one of the lowest fatality rates globally. Today it stands at 1.52%. These have in tandem resulted in consistent slide in the active cases.

78% of the new recovered cases are observed to be concentrated in 10 States/UTs .

Maharashtra contributes more than 13,000 to the single day recoveries followed by Karnataka with more than 8,000 recoveries.

62,212 new confirmed cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

79% of these are from 10 States and UTs. Maharashtra is still reporting a very high number of new cases with more than 11,000 cases followed by Karnataka and Kerala with more than 7,000 cases each.

837 case fatalities have been reported in the past 24 hours. Of these, nearly 82% are concentrated in ten States/UTs.

Maharashtra has reported the maximum single day deaths (306 deaths).

The Centre continues to support the State and UT Governments in the collective fight against the global pandemic. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has deputed high level Central teams to Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. These States have been reporting a surge in the number of new COVID cases in the recent days.

The teams will support the State efforts towards strengthening containment, surveillance, testing, infection prevention and control measures, and efficient clinical management of the positive cases. The Central teams shall also guide in effectively managing the challenges related to timely diagnosis and follow up.

British MP Nadine Dorries, a minister in the health department, has tested positive for coronavirus, she said in a statement on Tuesday, raising concerns about whether senior government figures have been infected.

“I can confirm I have tested positive for coronavirus… and have been self-isolating at home,” said the Conservative MP.

Health officials are now trying to trace where she contracted the virus and who she has been in contact with, she added.

Six people have died in Britain from the virus, with more than 370 confirmed cases.

Dorries, who helped craft the legislation to fight the bug, is the first British politician to be diagnosed with COVID-19.

The Times reported that she had been in touch with hundreds of people, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

She fell unwell on Friday while signing the document that declared coronavirus a notifiable disease, meaning companies could obtain insurance cover, said the paper, adding she was now believed to be on the road to recovery.

“I would like to thank… the wonderful NHS staff who have provided me with advice and support,” she said, referring to Britain’s National Health Service.

The shock news is likely to increase calls to suspend parliament, despite the government’s reluctance to do so in the middle of a health crisis.

Her boss Matt Hancock, who is leading Britain’s response, tweeted that he was “sorry to hear Nadine has tested positive for coronavirus.

“She has done the right thing by self isolating at home, and both NHS and PHE staff have been brilliant. We all wish her well as she recovers,” he added. PHE refers to Public Health England.

“We will do all we can to keep people safe, based on the best possible science.”

Finance minister Rishi Sunak will on Wednesday unveil the government’s first post-Brexit budget, with all eyes on emergency government measures to ease the economic pain from the coronavirus outbreak.

Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja said that a person admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College may be positive for Coronavirus. Though a press release by the Centre had said that the second case of Coronovirus had been confirmed and it was a student from Kerala, KK Shailaja said that the state was still awaiting the report from National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.

“NIV has only said that a preliminary analysis has been done. NIV is yet to give us the final result. We cannot say anything for sure till the final results come. But since NIV has said that this student is likely to have contracted the disease, we are being extra vigilant,” she told the media on Sunday.

Another student who returned from Wuhan province in China has tested positive for Coronavirus and she is in isolation at the Thrissur Medical College.

The Health Minister insisted that those in home quarantine should not go out without informing the health department. “Though 14 days is the incubation period, to ensure more safety, we have asked people to be in quarantine for 28 days.”

“If any functions like weddings are fixed in the families of such persons, such programs should be postponed without any excuse. There is no great loss in postponing a wedding, but hundreds of people come for functions like this. We are a densely populated state and if the disease spreads, it will become tough for us,” she said.

The Minister also said that the state government has requested the Centre to speed up the procedures and send the results as soon as possible.

“We are very vigilant after Nipah. There is no clear treatment for such virus infections. Proper rest and isolation is what is needed most. People should also know that everyone may not show all the symptoms,” the Health Minister reminded.

The Minister also reminded that though there is an NIV in Alappuzha, there was still no permission for conducting tests for Coronavirus. “We have contacted the Centre and asked them to speed up the procedures and send results fast. Though we have NIV in Alappuzha, we cannot test there without permission. We hope the results will come out by today evening. As of now, 24 results came till yesterday, out of 56 samples sent to test,” Shailaja said.

Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja said that the female medical college student from Wuhan University, who was tested positive for the deadly coronavirus, has been shifted to Thrissur Medical College from the general hospital. She added that the patient is stable.

India reported its first case of the novel Coronavirus (nCoV) in Kerala on Thursday, prompting state government to step up its efforts to detect and prevent the spread of the virus that has killed at least 213 people and infected more that 9,692 in China.

The Centre will evacuate Indians on Friday from China’s Wuhan city, the epicentre of the deadly virus, which has spread to at least 17 countries already.

Shailaja held a high-level meeting at the medical college hospital here on Thursday midnight to take stock of the situation.

The health minister, who met the media after the meeting, said an awareness campaign would be launched among people to identify the possible infection and that the health department had alerted all district authorities.

Kerala ministers hailing from the district — A C Moideen, C Raveendranath and V S Sunil Kumar — also participated in the meeting along with senior officials of the health department. The health minister said a meeting with representatives of private hospitals have been convened at 11 am on January 31.

“We need to create awareness among the people. Strong action will be taken in case anyone attempts to spread any fake news. We will hold high-level meetings every day and issue medical bulletin with updates,” the minister said.

The medical college here has been upgraded with a special isolation ward with full facilities to treat at least 24 patients at a time.

At least, 1,053 people are under observation in the state as the Left Democratic Front government scrambled for tackling the emergency. “Of the four students who returned from China, one of them has been tested positive. We have taken all precautionary measures and there was no need to panic,” Shailaja had said earlier.
