Coal India Limited’s 3rd HR/IR Conclave “Utkarsh 2026,” hosted by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL),at Bilaspur concluded after two days of extensive deliberations on the future of human resources and industrial relations in the coal sector. Held under the theme “Shaping Minds, Strengthening Mines – Innovate, Excel, Rise,” the conclave brought together over 100 HR leaders, industry experts, and academicians. Chairman B. Sairam, in his inaugural address, emphasised the critical role of human capital in driving the organisation’s vision of “Reform, Perform, Transform.”

In his welcome address, SECL CMD Harish Duhan highlighted the importance of a people-centric culture and continuous employee development, while Chief Vigilance Officer Brajesh Kumar Tripathy stressed integrity and collective identity. Director (HR), CIL, Vinay Ranjan, in his keynote, underscored the transformation of HR into a strategic driver of productivity, innovation, and organisational growth. Sessions over the two days focused on change management, workforce planning, AI in HR, and strengthening leadership trust.

The valedictory session featured Pullela Gopichand, who drew parallels between sports and organisational excellence, emphasising discipline, resilience, and sustained effort. Moderated by SECL Director (HR) Biranchi Das, the session inspired participants to adopt performance-driven mindsets. The conclave concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen HR systems, promote innovation, and align people strategies with Coal India’s broader goal of sustainable and efficient mining.

SECL Plans Joint Ventures with Chhattisgarh for Floating Solar and Coal Gasification Projects

BILASPUR. South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. (SECL) is exploring joint ventures with the Chhattisgarh government to develop floating solar and surface coal gasification projects, Chairman and Managing Director Harish Duhan said on Monday. The Bilaspur-based miner aims to install 626 MW of solar capacity by FY2027–28 as part of its clean energy expansion strategy.

Discussions on floating solar projects are underway with the Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL), given the State’s vast reservoir network. Mr. Duhan noted that a comprehensive state policy is currently being formulated to guide such initiatives.

Additionally, SECL plans to pursue coal gasification projects under a revenue-sharing model, aligning with its broader diversification and sustainability objectives.

SECL Plans 700 MW Solar Capacity by 2028–29

Bilaspur: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), which contributes nearly 20 per cent of India’s total coal production, has announced plans to develop 700 MW of solar power capacity by 2028–29 as part of its clean energy transition strategy. Addressing a gathering, SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan said coal continues to play a crucial role in ensuring national energy security, with more than 70 per cent of the country’s electricity generation still dependent on coal-based power. He noted that while meeting rising energy demand, the company is also aligning with India’s broader renewable energy goals by diversifying into solar power and adopting sustainable mining practices.

Alongside its energy initiatives, SECL is expanding its social responsibility programmes in coalfield regions of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Through flagship schemes such as SECL Ki Dhadkan and SECL Ke Sushrut, the company is supporting life-saving treatment for children with congenital heart defects, assisting medical aspirants with coaching and scholarships, and promoting skill development among local youth. The company said these initiatives aim to improve healthcare, education and livelihood opportunities in mining-affected areas, reflecting a balanced approach between industrial growth, environmental responsibility and community welfare.
