On October 28, 2024, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) launched two Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs), Adamya and Akshar, each featuring over 60% indigenous content and constructed by Goa Shipyard Ltd. (GSL). The vessels are part of an eight-FPV contract with GSL, valued at Rs 473 crore, aimed at enhancing India’s maritime security.

Designed primarily for protection, monitoring, control, and surveillance, these advanced FPVs will support the ICG in safeguarding offshore assets and island territories. Each vessel is 52 meters long, with an 8-meter beam, a maximum speed of 27 knots, and a 320-ton displacement, and operates with a Controllable Pitch Propeller propulsion system. The vessels adhere to strict standards, having earned dual certification from the American Bureau of Shipping and the Indian Register of Shipping.

In a first for ICG, the simultaneous launch of two vessels was achieved using the state-of-the-art Ship Lift System. Smt. Priya Paramesh officially named the vessels in a ceremonious event attended by Director General of ICG, Paramesh Sivamani, veterans, and other dignitaries, resonating with the chants of the Atharva Veda.
