Centered around the theme “Nature is Us,” the workshop engaged 40 girls, aged 10 to 12, in experiential activities designed to foster self-awareness, calm thinking, and environmental empathy. Using eco-conscious models of rare and endangered species, the Zankla team introduced participants to the interconnectedness of nature and self. The workshop encouraged the children to explore their own creativity while recognizing their potential as future stewards of sustainability and positive change.

The session concluded with a heartfelt felicitation by Smt. Kasturi Maitra, President of the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, who praised the Zankla team for their enriching contribution. Now in its fourth successful year, GEM continues to empower young girls aged 10–12 years, nurturing their self-confidence, leadership skills, and social responsibility. This year, 40 talented girls from 12 neighboring schools have been selected to participate in a comprehensive program designed to inspire and transform.

The inaugural event set the tone with a ceremonial lamp lighting and the presentation of NTPC’s theme song, symbolizing the organization’s ongoing dedication to progress and women’s empowerment. The ceremony was attended by distinguished leaders such as Shri Debarata Kar, CGM (O&M); Smt. Soumya Kar, Vice President of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club; Shri L.N. Meitei, Commandant of CISF; and Shri Amit Kr. Asthana, Head of HR, along with representatives from unions, welfare bodies, and proud parents.

Highlights of the event included a short film showcasing GEM 2025’s impactful activities, vibrant cultural performances by students of Bal Bhawan and Notre Dame Academy, and heartfelt testimonials from GEM alumni who shared their inspiring journeys of self-discovery and empowerment. Additionally, students performed a compelling act on ‘Educating the Girl Child,’ demonstrating their awareness and creativity.

In her address, DC Smt. Masanda Partin emphasized the crucial role of girls’ empowerment in strengthening families and communities, while Shri Arnab Maitra reaffirmed NTPC’s dedication to inclusive development, education, and leadership building through GEM as a flagship initiative.

Running from July 1 to July 30, 2025, GEM 2025 promises a transformative experience for participants through structured modules, creative activities, and a focus on their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

NTPC’s GEM program has already empowered over 12,700 girls across all its locations, exemplifying the company’s unwavering commitment to social responsibility, gender equality, and sustainable community development. Commerce and Industry Minister further stated that the Indian gem and jewellery sector has a huge potential to grow in the trade and in creation of more jobs and he assured that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will extend all help to the sector to achieve its target of USD 75 billion.

He urged entrepreneurs in the sector to make full use of the soon to be launched NIRVIK Scheme of ECGC that will ease the lending process and enhance loan availability for exporters. It will also make foreign exchange loans available at much cheaper rates not only for large export houses but also small exporters.
Commerce and Industry Minister informed that there are 4 Common Facility Centers being set-up in the country apart from the 4 that are already in use at present and the sector must make full use of them to get jewellery tested and certified.

Those in the gem and jewellery sector must also address the issue of unnecessary import of gold, he further urged those associated with the sector to device a scheme that will help the Government of India to unlock this asset that is lying locked up in personal vaults of the citizens which will help to reduce the burden on India’s FOREX reserves added the Minister.
