NLCIL and NALCO Form Joint Venture for 1,080 MW Thermal Power Project

BHUNANESHWAR. Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprises NLC India Limited and National Aluminium Company Limited have signed a Joint Venture agreement to establish a 1,080 MW coal-based captive thermal power plant at Angul, Odisha. The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy.

The project features a 4×270 MW configuration and will be executed with an equal 50:50 equity participation. This strategic partnership ensures long-term power supply and advances integrated resource development. Key dignitaries attending the ceremony included Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha (Addl. Secretary, Coal & CMD, NLCIL), Shri Brijendra Pratap Singh (CMD, NALCO), Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya (Director Finance, NLCIL), Shri Abhaya Kumar Beuria (Director Finance, NALCO), Shri Jagdish Arora (Director Projects, NALCO), and Shri Vivek Kumar Bajpai (Joint Secretary, Mines).

Kishan Reddy, is set to launch Coal Neer, a major welfare and community outreach project providing safe 20-litre jars of purified drinking water for just 5 rupees. Initially implemented by Coal India Limited subsidiaries including BCCL, CCL, SECL, and MCL, the initiative leverages existing township infrastructure to establish robust water purification facilities. BCCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Manoj Kumar Agarwal highlighted that the heavily subsidized program is designed to secure the health of mining communities, lessen dependence on private vendors, and ensure clean water never becomes a financial burden.

NALCO Hands Over ₹988.88 Crore Dividend to Government of India

NALCO presented a dividend cheque of ₹988.88 crore for FY 2024-25 to the Government of India, handed over to Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy in the presence of Mines Secretary Piyush Goyal, IAS. The cheque was submitted by NALCO CMD B. P. Singh in New Delhi, with Director (Production) P. K. Sharma and Director (Finance) A. K. Behuria also in attendance. Since 1992, NALCO has paid a total dividend of ₹14,331 crore, including ₹9,556 crore to the Government of India, underscoring the company’s sustained profitability and long-standing commitment to value creation.
