the city civil court at Dindoshi observed while rejecting the actor’s plea for interim restraint on Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from taking any action for demolishing all the modifications.

“I find that the plaintiff (Ranaut) being an owner of three flats converted these three units into one unit,” said the city civil court judge, LS Chavan, while rejecting Ranaut’s plea on December 17.

“She has covered the sunk area, duct area, common passage as per her own convenience and included FSI-free into habitable area. These are the grave violation of the sanctioned plan for which the permission of the Competent Authority is required,” the judge added in his order that became available on December 28.

FSI, or floor area ratio (FAR), is the maximum area that can be constructed on a piece of land.

The actor has filed a suit in the city civil court challenging a notice issued by BMC under section 53(1) of the MRTP Act and three orders passed by the Competent Officer of H/West ward, in May, September and December 2018. The directive was to remove the additions and alterations made at her residence, fifth floor of Orchid Breeze building at Khar west, and restore the three separate flats to their original condition, as per plans sanctioned by the civic body.

Ranaut had filed an application in the suit for interim injunction against BMC, restraining the civic body from taking any action pursuant to the notice under section 53(1).

Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee argued on her behalf that the notice and the orders were vague and did not specify the exact nature and description of the alleged unauthorised construction.

The two principal characters of the delightfully askew Gulabo Sitabo are always at loggerheads, but the trait that they share – a selfish love for the crumbling Fatima Mahal, a mansion going to seed rather rapidly – constitutes the spine of the story.

The spare, unshowy treatment of the central conflict, which, as the film progresses, creates room for two other key players with their won sets of vested interests, might appear to be at variance with the comedic spirit of the plot.

With the actors giving the film their all – Amitabh Bachchan’s wizened, hunchbacked, curmudgeonly act is the main propellant – Gulabo Sitabo works even when not much seems to be happening on the screen or the characters are beating about the bush.

The best thing about Gulabo Sitabo, scripted by Juhi Chaturvedi, is that it isn’t trying to be a scream. The humour springs from the language and the manner of its delivery. It won’t have you rolling on the floor. But it will elicit mild chuckles every time Mirza (Bachchan) and Baankey Rastogi (Ayushmann Khurrana) have a go at each other over petty matters that slowly snowball out of control.

Mirza and Baankey won’t cede an inch to each other, but fate has a way of asserting itself. In Mirza’s case, it is represented by his Begum (Farrukh Jafar), who is a decade-and-a-half older than him but is no pushover. For Baankey, who owns an atta chakki in town, destiny takes the form of a few bricks in a wall that give way when he directs a kick at it in the exasperation triggered by a fellow tenant who takes longer than usual in the toilet.

HREE more persons testing positive for novel Coronavirus (COVID 2019) in Mumbai, Thane and Pune, the number of positive cases in Maharashtra rose to 14 on Thursday.

This comes on a day when the Uddhav Thackeray government issued an advisory directing that all public functions, tours, drives and administrative programmes be called off in the wake of the spread of COVID 2019. It also announced that strict action will be against those who do not follow the instructions.

State Health Minister Rajesh Tope told mediapersons that of the three cases, the condition of a 64-year-old man who had returned to Mumbai from Dubai on March 8 was serious. Two days later, he was admitted to a private hospital for an existing heart condition. His samples were sent to Kasturba hospital, where they tested positive on Thursday evening.

Good Newwz is a screwball comedy about two couples who experience a mix-up at a fertility clinic, after their sperm is exchanged. While Akshay and Kareena play the sophisticated Batras, Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh play the louder Batras.

The film has made Rs 190 crore in India, after 18 days of release. It marked Akshay Kumar’s fourth film of the year to hit the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office, following Kesari, Mission Mangal and Housefull 4. The actor will next be seen in the action thriller Sooryavanshi, which is the latest instalment in director Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, whose previous instalments include the two Singham films and Simmba. After that, Akshay will appear in the horror comedy Laxxmi Bomb and then in Prithviraj.

Good Newwz received positive reviews from critics as well, who praised the mix of humour and emotions. Thanking fans for the positive reception, Akshay said in a statement, “We are extremely overwhelmed with the response coming in for Good Newwz as it’s a subject which had to be shared with the audience. It’s an important subject and I thank the viewers not only in India but also overseas that they have accepted us with open hearts.
