The company recently announced its plan to launch its own hospitals in the next few months

Bengaluru, India – 11 February 2025: Even, India’s fast-growing integrated healthcare provider is working towards a significant but under-addressed challenge patients, insurers and even hospitals face in India – avoidable readmissions due to weak post-surgery care.

Currently, around 10% of hospitalised patients across medical conditions are readmitted within the first 30 days of surgery and around 60% of these cases are preventable. A significant number of readmissions occur within two weeks of discharge, with initial symptoms often emerging within three days. Even’s team ensures that the relevant clinical practices are put in place and members are cared for the right way after they are discharged from the hospital.

By addressing common issues like missed medications, difficulties in reaching doctors, overlooked symptoms, and lapses in follow-up care, Even’s preliminary efforts in this area have achieved notable results in reducing avoidable readmissions by up to 50%. These interventions have proven effective in managing post-surgery infections such as reducing respiratory infection recurrences, and supporting cardiac patients in adhering to their prescribed treatments.

“Full recovery is why anyone gets under the knife. Besides a financial setback, patients and families also undergo a mental setback due to hospital readmissions. At Even, we want to keep people healthy and have fewer hospital stays through robust primary care delivered at the right time. Whether through early risk detection in routine check-ups or critical pre- and post-hospitalisation support, we are able to tactically align patients’ interest with the insurers and providers and rebuild trust within the healthcare system. ” said Matilde Giglio, Co-founder, Even.

The company is currently a trusted healthcare provider for over 200,000+ members comprising both individual and corporate clients. The managed care programs cater to a wide age range, from 15 to 75 years.

Even Healthcare is pioneering the concept of vertically-integrated care in India through providing its members consultations with its in-house team of doctors across specialities, a growing network of its own clinics, a generous OPD plan covering external consultations and tests, and an IPD plan covering hospitalisations through its insurance partners.

The company recently announced plans of opening its own hospitals, beginning with two hospitals to be launched in the next few months in Bengaluru, India. The company had earlier announced a $30 million Series-A round supported by Khosla Ventures, Founders Fund, 8VC, Lachy Groom and others.

Even’s efforts represent a step towards more accessible and proactive healthcare solutions in India. By prioritising proactive care and strengthening post-hospitalisation support, the organisation seeks to improve patient recovery and reduce strain on the healthcare system.

The round was led by Khosla Ventures

Founders Fund, 8VC, and Lachy Groom participated in the round

Bengaluru, India, October 23, 2024 – Even Healthcare, the fast-growing Indian managed care provider, announced today that it has raised $30 million in a Series A funding round led by Khosla Ventures, with participation from Founders Fund, 8VC, and Lachy Groom among others. This round brings the company’s total funding to $50 million.

The new capital will be used to launch hospital operations and scale patient care and recourse processes.

Founded in 2020 by Mayank Banerjee, Matilde Giglio, and Alessandro Ialongo, Even Healthcare offers its members unlimited free consultations, diagnostic tests, and cashless hospitalization through its in-house clinical team, a growing network of owned and partner clinics, and insurance partners. Unlike India’s traditional fee-for-service healthcare model, which often results in delayed treatment and financial hurdles for patients, Even’s model aligns health outcomes with profitability. This unique approach fosters trust and efficiency at every stage of care, addressing the misaligned incentives between patients, hospitals, and insurers.

With a workforce of 300 employees—a 50% increase over the past year—Even Healthcare has grown its membership base to hundreds of thousands, generating $28 million in revenue just 1.5 years after its commercial launch. Members can access unlimited consultations across episodic care, lifestyle management, and chronic condition treatment for an annual fee of ₹4,800, with the option to add on health insurance for hospital coverage.

To further its mission of creating a seamless healthcare experience, Even plans to open three secondary-care-focused hospitals in Bengaluru. This move will enable the company to offer a vertically integrated “payvider” (payer + provider) model, a first in India, aimed at reducing hospitalization risks through early risk profiling and managed care. By bringing hospital operations in-house, Even aims to provide the same control over patient experience it has achieved with outpatient care, which has led to high customer satisfaction and retention.

Speaking on the funding, Matilde Giglio, Co-founder of Even Healthcare commented “Consistent high-quality care, customer experience, and value will build trust and loyalty. Our health plans have grown aggressively in both B2B and B2C segments, with a 95% customer retention rate. This positions us to deliver strong results in the years ahead.”

“To sustain this momentum, we will continue to invest in our delivery systems, technology, and customer-friendly products. Expanding our hospital, clinic, and diagnostic networks while strengthening our team of doctors will enable us to reduce medical costs, enhance patient experience, and increase the overall value our members receive from the health system.” added Ale Ialongo, Co-founder of Even Healthcare,

Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, commented, “Modernized healthcare is essential to any country. Even is bringing high-quality, affordable care to one of the world’s largest populations, and we’re excited to partner with them as they boldly reimagine healthcare for India.”

Even Healthcare’s holistic, preventative care model addresses a critical gap in India’s healthcare system, which currently has one of the highest medical inflation rates in Asia. While the healthcare market in India was valued at $372 billion in 2022, growing at 22% CAGR, private insurance still covers only a small portion of the population.

Even’s focus on leveraging technology to scale its solutions is reflected in its latest initiative—the launch of an AI-powered health assistant, “Even Steven.” Available via WhatsApp, Even Steven offers medically-verified information, empowering patients with knowledge and improving access to care.
