· Signed contract to deploy 100 EVs with the country’s first commercial battery swapping system for concentrate transport

· Added 100 LNG trucks, doubling fleet to 200 and cutting long-haul CO₂ emissions significantly

Bengaluru, 4th August 2025: Hindustan Zinc Limited (BSE: 500188 & NSE: HINDZINC), the world’s largest and India’s only integrated zinc producer, has launched one of India’s largest green logistics transitions in partnership with GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd., an Essar venture and the country’s leading green logistics operator. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in Hindustan Zinc’s accelerated push towards achieving 100% decarbonization of its supply chain through the deployment of advanced electric (EV) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) trucks.

This expansion marks a major step forward in Hindustan Zinc’s pursuit of Net Zero emissions, enabled by the widespread integration of EVs and LNG trucks throughout its supply chain.

As part of this strategic collaboration, GreenLine will invest ₹400 crore to deploy 100 Electric Trucks, replacing diesel vehicles for inter-unit concentrate movement between the company’s mines and smelters, and establish India’s first commercial-scale battery swapping infrastructure with 3 high-capacity stations for 24×7 operations, while also expanding Hindustan Zinc’s LNG fleet by adding 100 new LNG trucks, doubling the fleet size to 200 for long-haul finished goods transport.

Arun Misra, CEO Hindustan Zinc Limited, stated, “At Hindustan Zinc, we are unwavering in our commitment to pioneering sustainable practices and believe the future of manufacturing is green. This large-scale deployment of EVs and LNG trucks, a bold step in our journey to net zero, solidifies our dedication to driving meaningful impact through innovative green logistics solutions and strategic partnerships, shaping a cleaner, more sustainable supply chain.”

This expansion will deliver cost efficiencies through discounted freight rates and is estimated to reduce approximately 236 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions per month, equivalent to planting around 12,000 trees. Combined, this initiative is expected to reduce about 1,50,000 tonnes of Scope 3 emissions annually, further advancing Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to become net zero by 2050 or sooner & supporting India’s green growth ambitions.

Anand Mimani CEO of GreenLine, said, “Clean transport isn’t a future option, it’s today’s responsibility. This deployment with Hindustan Zinc powerfully reflects our shared urgency to decarbonize logistics at scale, setting a scalable model for industrial decarbonization across sectors. With our LNG and EV fleet, manufactured by Blue Energy Motors, we’re bringing together innovation, sustainability, and real-world impact in a way that’s practical and powerful for industry.”

Recognized as the world’s most sustainable company in metals & mining sector by S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024, Hindustan Zinc recently announced its ambitious 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The goals cover ambitious targets spanning various thematic areas such as climate change, water stewardship, biodiversity conservation, responsible sourcing, circular economy, workforce diversity and social impact. The company has committed to achieving 50% reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions and 25% reduction of Scope 3 emissions from the 2020 baseline.

GreenLine currently operates over 650 LNG trucks, serving clients across FMCG, e-commerce, metals & mining, cement, oil & gas, and chemicals. Its fleet has covered more than 50 million kilometres, cutting over 14,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The company plans to expand to more than 10,000 clean trucks, supported by a nationwide network of 100 LNG refuelling stations, EV charging hubs, and battery swapping facilities — an integrated green mobility ecosystem aiming to cut carbon emissions by up to 1 million tonnes annually.

Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have expanded by two-and-a-half times across nine mega cities, including Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, in the last four months, the power ministry said on Saturday.

Efforts by the government resulted in 2.5 times increase in charging stations in Surat, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai in the last four months, a power ministry statement stated.

According to the statement, additional 678 public EV charging stations were installed between October 2021 and January 2022 in these nine cities. About 940 of India’s 1,640 public EV chargers are located in these cities.

The government has increased its focus initially on the nine mega cities with population of over 4 million.

The Ministry of Power recently issued the revised consolidated Guidelines and Standards for EV charging infrastructure on January 14, 2022.

The Government of India has undertaken multiple initiatives to promote the manufacturing and adoption of electric vehicles in the country.

With the considerable expansion in the public EV charging infrastructure, the electric vehicles have started penetrating the Indian market, it stated.

The government has made 360-degree efforts to enhance public charging infrastructure by involving private and public agencies (BEE, EESL, PGCIL, NTPC, etc.). Many private organisations have also come forward to install EV charging stations to develop convenient charging network grid to gain consumers’ confidence.

After the saturation of EV infrastructure in these mega cities, the government has plans to expand the coverage to other cities in a phased manner.

Oil marketing companies have announced the setting up of 22,000 EV charging stations in prominent cities and on national highways across the country.

Out of 22,000 EV charging stations, 10,000 will be installed by IOCL (Indian Oil), 7,000 will be installed by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL), and the rest of 5,000 will be installed by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL).

The IOCL has already installed 439 EV charging stations and plans to install another 2,000 EV charging stations over the next year. BPCL has installed 52 charging stations, while HPCL has installed 382 charging stations.

The Noida authority planning to have 100 charging stations for electric vehicles in Noida.

the authority is planning a tie-up with a government-backed agency for setting up infrastructure for mobility based on clean energy.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) is signed between Noida Authority and EESL, a joint venture of public sector undertakings under the Union Ministry of Power, a senior official said.

“Survey work is underway to finalise the spots where these stations will come up. There will be 100 stations across Noida. Three of them — at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra and commercial hubs of Sector 18 and Sector 62 — are proposed to come up within a week of the signing of the MoU,” an authority official said.

The MoU signed in the presence of NOIDA Chairperson Alok Tandon, CEO Ritu Maheshwari and EESL Managing Director Saurabh Kumar, the official said.

According to the official, the authority is also planning to lease five electric vehicles from EESL to be used for official purposes.

Work is underway at other six sites for charging stations. Three of these stations will be on road, while three off road, with each having a capacity of at least 11 kV, they said. Vehicle growth in the country has been rapid in the recent years, with ownership per 1,000 population increasing from 53 in 2001 to 167 in 2015, according to 2018 NITI Aayog report ‘Zero Emission Vehicles: Towards a Policy Framework’.

Earlier this year, the central government had issued a set of guidelines to set up charging stations for electric vehicles across the country, outlining ways to build such fuelling points every 25 km.

According to the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, the government expects 25 per cent of the total vehicles on roads will be electric vehicles by 2030, necessitating to erect robust electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the country.

The ministry had made amendments to the Model Building Byelaws (MBBL) 2016 and the Urban Regional Development Plans Formulation and Implementation (URDPFI) Guidelines 2014, making provisions for establishing EV charging infrastructure.
