In his address to the employees and guests, Chairman Shri Gurdeep Singh outlined a futuristic vision for the Corporation, targeting a total power generation capacity of 7.6 GW by the year 2032. This ambitious expansion blueprint will heavily focus on scaling up DVC’s capabilities across thermal, hydro, and non-conventional floating solar energy sectors. He was recognized for his outstanding leadership in enhancing POWERGRID’s operational performance through the implementation of ISO 55001 standards, advanced digital initiatives, and globally benchmarked asset management practices. During the conference, which saw participation from over 25 countries, he also delivered a key technical presentation on driving digitalization and reliability-centered maintenance, underscoring POWERGRID’s commitment to strengthening India’s power transmission network through innovation and excellence.

In tandem with the procedural changes, crucial updates have been made to the required educational qualifications specified in the official job description. The criteria have now been expanded to include individuals holding a ‘Post Graduate’ degree, alongside the existing provisions for first-class graduates in Engineering, Chartered Accountancy, or Cost Accountancy, as well as graduates with a full-time MBA or PGDIM from leading institutions. To accommodate these new changes and allow eligible candidates to apply under the updated terms, the deadline for submitting applications has been extended until July 22, 2026.

In a significant departure from conventional public sector enterprise (PSE) guidelines, the govt  has implemented three critical structural shifts:

Age Limit Extension: The maximum age limit for external applicants has been raised to 59 years at the time of application, widening the talent pool to include highly experienced industry veterans.

Abolition of Superannuation Cap: The strict retirement age of 60 for the position has been relaxed. The selected candidate will no longer be forced to step down automatically upon turning 60 during their term.

Fixed Tenure Structure: To guarantee management continuity, the government is introducing a fixed three-year tenure. This term is extendable by an additional two years subject to a performance review, potentially allowing a five-year leadership run regardless of the candidate’s age.

Knowledgeable source said  , top PSE posts often saw short leadership stints because executives were appointed close to their retirement age of 60. By guaranteeing a three-to-five-year window and pushing the age ceiling to 59, the government aims to give the next ONGC chief enough runway to execute long-term exploration and production strategies.

The search comes at a crucial time as ONGC looks to reverse aging production fields and accelerate its deepwater exploration initiatives. The Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) is expected to consider both internal public sector candidates and high-ranking private sector executives.

Dr. Mohanty has been serving as Director (Finance) since October 2023 and as Chief Financial Officer of IREDA shortly thereafter. With over 27 years of experience in the renewable energy and power sectors, he has held key positions at IREDA, REC Limited, REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), CESCO, and GRIDCO. A highly qualified finance professional, he holds multiple postgraduate degrees, a law degree, and a Ph.D. in Commerce, and is widely recognised for his expertise in project financing, renewable energy, and power sector development.

Bringing over 35 years of robust power sector experience with a core specialization in hydro power, Shri Chandel has a proven track record in project conceptualization, strategic planning, execution, monitoring, and international coordination across India, Nepal, and Bhutan.

His distinguished career includes serving as OSD to the CMD, heading major wholly owned subsidiaries in Nepal to oversee the 900 MW Arun-3 and 669 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Projects, commissioning the 1020 MW project in Bhutan as MD of PHPA-II, and leading the 66 MW Dhaulasidh Project in India. An expert in handling complex engineering tasks, his technical journey highlights nearly eight years dedicated to constructing the Head Race Tunnel for the landmark 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station, alongside versatile corporate leadership roles since joining SJVN in 1994.
