NEW DELHI. To mark World Environment Day 2026, NTPC Limited reinforced its commitment to environmental conservation by planting a total of 11,360 saplings across its various power stations under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign. At the NTPC Samridhi Township in Noida, senior officials including Executive Director Chandramouli Kasina, Chief General Manager of HR V. Jayanarayanan, and General Manager of EMG Vinod Rattan led an environment awareness program focused on source segregation of waste, distributing dual dustbins to residents and hosting an interactive quiz for families. Simultaneously, the leadership team extended these eco-friendly initiatives to the local community by organizing a plantation drive, an environment pledge, and drawing and essay competitions at the Government Composite Junior School in Morna Village. The day concluded at the EOC Noida corporate office, where employees took a formal environmental protection pledge and received eco-friendly jute bags to actively discourage the use of single-use plastics in daily operations.

To celebrate World Environment Day and promote environmental conservation, SJVN organized a significant tree plantation drive at Chamiyana in Shimla today under the campaign theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. Led by Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta, the initiative was executed in active collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh State Forest Department. Key dignitaries, including Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma, CVO Pankaj Porwal, and Lt. Col. Lakhwinder Singh from the 133 Infantry Battalion (TA) Eco Dogra, joined senior officials and employees from SJVN Corporate Headquarters to plant 150 saplings of diverse tree species such as Deodar, Oak, Walnut, and Pomegranate. Highlighting the collective commitment of the participants toward achieving a greener future, Ajay Kumar Sharma remarked that the successful drive serves as a powerful testament to collective environmental responsibility and is aimed at inspiring widespread community action and awareness for ecological protection.

Coal India Chairman Visits SECL, Assures Adequate Energy Supply

BILASPUR: B. Sairam, Chairman of Coal India Limited, assured that the company is fully prepared to meet the country’s energy demand amid the ongoing West Asia crisis. Addressing officials during his visit, he said that despite disruptions in gas-based power generation, Coal India has sufficient coal reserves to ensure uninterrupted supply to power plants and key industries, with no impact on production or dispatch.

Sairam began his three-day visit to South Eastern Coalfields Limited on April 3, 2026, travelling from Raipur to Gevra House and inspecting the Kusmunda Mega Project. Accompanied by CMD Harish Duhan, he reviewed mine plans, production targets, operational strategies, and future roadmap, appreciating the scale and efficiency of operations. The visit included inspections of key sites such as the Neelkanth Saakar View Point, NIML Patch, and Kusmunda View Point, where mining operations, First Mile Connectivity systems, and dispatch mechanisms were assessed in detail.

Coal India is also focusing on strengthening operations through digital technologies to enhance efficiency, planning, and safety. Alongside its core coal business, the company is diversifying into critical minerals, rail infrastructure, and coal gasification projects, reinforcing its commitment to energy security and future-ready mining operations.

During the visit, the Chairman also felicitated employees and officers for outstanding performance at the Kusmunda Area, recognising operators, technical staff, and sports participants to boost morale and team spirit. He also promoted environmental awareness by planting a sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, in the presence of senior SECL officials.

SECL plants over 1.46 Lakh Saplings under Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, has undertaken a significant environmental initiative by planting 146,675 saplings across its operational areas in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh as part of a nationwide plantation drive launched in July 2024. Conducted in 8 districts of Chhattisgarh and 3 districts of Madhya Pradesh, the drive covered over 56 hectares and included the distribution of 25,000 saplings to local communities. This effort was further enhanced under the 2024 “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign, during which SECL planted an additional 4,200 saplings, demonstrating its commitment to environmental conservation and public cleanliness.

The company also celebrated its Kusmunda mine’s achievement of 501 lakh tons of coal production by planting 501 saplings in a day, reinforcing its focus on balancing energy production with environmental sustainability.

Looking ahead, SECL plans to invest Rs. 169 crores over the next five years on extensive afforestation efforts in collaboration with the Rajya Van Vikas Nigam. The goal is to plant 26 lakh saplings in Chhattisgarh and 12 lakh in Madhya Pradesh by 2027-28, with a four-year maintenance period for each plantation cycle to ensure sapling survival. Additionally, SECL has introduced the Miyawaki technique, a rapid afforestation method, in a pilot project covering 2 hectares in the Gevra Area. Since its inception, SECL has planted over 3 crore saplings, highlighting its dedication to environmental stewardship across its coal mining areas.
