Bengaluru, 24 September 2025: Durga Puja in Kolkata is often synonymous with towering budgets, dazzling lights, sprawling pandals and crowds hopping from one theme to another. The Story of Ultima Bahon: In the spirit of children’s love for toys, Eveready collaborated with engineers to design this toy truck. New Delhi, September 17, 2025:Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a leading power utility supplying electricity to a populace of around 9 million in North Delhi, is providing ‘tatkal’ electricity connections for organizing Ram Leela, Durga Puja and other festivals within 24-hours.

To obtain a ‘tatkal’ temporary electricity connection from Tata Power-DDL, consumers simply need to visit the customer care centre at the division office to complete easy formalities. Alternatively, consumers can also apply for and make payments for the temporary connection online through Tata Power-DDL’s official website – www.tatapower-ddl.com.

To facilitate a smooth process and hassle-free experience, meters are readily available at zonal offices. Once the customer submits the application along with the demand note.

Tata Power-DDL is also putting safety of people in mass gatherings on top priority. The concerned team is conducting inspections of electrical installations such as poles, streetlights, towers, wires, substations, and feeder pillars to identify and rectify safety hazards, if any. It has also issued advisory to its consumers to take due precautions with their wiring and avoid any loose connections, as these can lead to accidents. It is also crucial to install an ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) to protect both people and equipment from electrical shocks and fires by detecting and stopping electrical currents that leak to the ground.

Speaking on the matter, a Spokesperson from Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd said, “We have systems in place for temporary electricity connections for festivals such as Ram Leela, Durga Puja, etc., wherein we provide an electricity connection within 24 hours of completing the formalities. This facility can be availed for marriages and other events. Additionally, our teams will remain on high alert during upcoming festive seasons to handle any untoward incidents. Our priority is to ensure seamless operations, and we hope everyone enjoys a safe and joyful festive season.”

As lakhs of people throng the streets and by-lanes of the city for Pandal hopping, crowd management becomes key. This Durga Puja, Eveready marks the beginning of Devi Paksha, with a unique initiative which aims to share messages in public interest keeping in mind women’s safety especially in crowded spaces.

At a time when the conversation around women’s safety has taken centre stage, the initiative christened ‘Eveready Siren – Pujoy Awaaj Tolar Power’ (The Power to Raise Your Voice during Durga Puja) comes at the right time and aligns perfectly with the spirit of Durga Puja: a celebration of woman power. This is in continuation to the launch of Eveready Siren Torch that enables anyone in a vulnerable situation to raise an alarm by simply pressing a button and emitting a siren sound at 100 decibels.

As part of the initiative, Eveready has partnered with several of Kolkata’s most popular Durga Puja pandals including – Dumdum Park Tarun Sangha, Hindustan Park, and Jodhpur Park-95 Pally.

· In these pandals, Eveready will take over the megaphones which traditionally have been used by male presenters to make public announcements, and will replace it with female voices giving out some tongue-in-cheek messages ensuring crowds at a pandal remain cordial & safe.

· Eveready has roped in singer of national repute Usha Uthup and popular Bengali actress Ritabhari Chakraborty, who shall be reminding all pandal-hoppers of the importance of respecting women during the festive celebrations through these audio messages.

Durga Puja: 11 feet ‘Ashtadhatu’ Durga idol weighing 1,000 kg installed in North Kolkata pandal

Kolkata: An 11-foot idol of Goddess Durga weighing one metric ton or 1,000 kilograms has been installed at the mandap of Beniatola Sarbojanin Durga Puja community in North Kolkata.

The pandal and the idol have come up at the cost of around Rs 35 lakh and nearly 25 artisans have worked on them. The renowned idol-crafter Mintu Pal was in charge of the entire project.

The Sovabazar Beniatola Sarbojanin Durgotsav community claimed that the ‘Ashtadhatu’ idol at Sovabazar Beniatola puja is the heaviest idol so far.

Biswajit Dawn Puja Committee Joint Secretary said, “We are calling Kolkata’s heritage puja with traditional aspects, the theme of this year is called “Adir Ahwan”.

“Reflecting on old ‘Bonediyana’ with new generation puja and also giving respect, love, happiness, and feelings recalling is ‘Adir Ahwan’ idol artist Mintu Paul, Prafulla Rana, Pandal Artist Sudipto Kundu Chowdhury, ” he said

This year Maha Shashti fell on October 1 and Vijaya Dashami is on October 5. Like every year Kolkata is seeing some unique and new puja themes this year as well.

The Naktala Udayan Sangha’s Durga Puja pandal has followed the theme ‘Mota Kapor’ this year, bringing up narratives of women who settled in the city after partition and earned their living by sewing clothes.

This Puja pandal portrays the stories of these women through pictures sewn on pieces of cloth.

The 10th day of Sharad Navratri is celebrated as Dussehra or Vijaya Dashami. This year, Navratri started on September 26 and will conclude on October 5.

During the nine-day Navratri festival, devotees fast and offer prayers to Maa Durga‘s nine incarnations. The festival of Navratri celebrates the defeat of Mahishasura and the triumph of good over evil.

Stars Seeks Blessings From Durga Maa

The festival of Durga Puja is colored with devotional zeal, mythological legends, detailed rituals, extravagant pandals and magnificent tableaus of the divine Mother Goddess coming with her children Ganesh, Kartik, Lakshmi and Saraswati from Kailash to Dharti (her parent’s home). As the festival of Maa Durga is approaching, the members of North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samiti 2019 brings one of the oldest and the biggest Durga Puja in Mumbai to seek the blessings of Maa Durga.

The members of North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samiti 2019 unanimously believe “Our puja is well-known as a “GHARUA PUJA” which means all are welcome to become a part of our puja family. We believe in serving Bhog to all who come to seek blessings of Maa Durga. Our members are actively involved in serving the Bhog.
