Dream Girl starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha, has been declared a hit. The film crossed the Rs 50 crore mark .

The film collected Rs 7.43 crore on Monday taking its total to Rs 52 crore. It was Ayushmann’s highest weekend grosser with collections of Rs 44.57 crore.

Sharing the box office figures of the film, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Dream Girl consolidates and cements its status… Is a bonafide success, with Day 4 [working day] showing negligible decline [despite lower ticket rates on weekdays]… Fri 10.05 cr, Sat 16.42 cr, Sun 18.10 cr, Mon 7.43 cr. Total: Rs 52 cr. India biz.”The film is Ayushmann’s second hit of the year after his last release, Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15. He had played a no-nonsense cop in the film which collected Rs 65.45 crore at the domestic box office.

Taran had compared the first weekend collections of the film with Ayushmann’s earlier grossers on Monday. He wrote on Twitter, “Ayushmann Khurrana versus Ayushmann Khurrana… Opening Weekend biz: 2019: Dream Girl Rs 44.57 cr. 2018: Badhaai Ho Rs 45.70 cr [extended 4-day wknd]. 2019: Article 15 Rs 20.04 cr. 2018: AndhaDhun Rs 15 cr. 2017: Shubh Mangal Saavdhan Rs 14.46 cr. 2017: Bareilly Ki Barfi Rs 11.52 cr.”

Dream Girl A Full On Comedy

Dream Girl, which stars Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role, is a laugh riot. The film also stars Annu Kapoor, Nushrat Bahrucha and Manjot Singh. It is directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa.In this, an educated but jobless Karamvir Singh (Ayushmann Khurrana) gets pulled into a friendship call centre that is run by women knitting sweaters or sifting through dhaniya in office for Rs 70,000. Equipped with the innate talent of impersonating a woman’s voice, Karamvir often finds himself dressing up as Radha or Sita in local plays. And this very gift lands him a job as Pooja in a call centre for chats.

Blessed with the gift of gab and a melodious voice, Karamvir aka Pooja soon finds a queue of men vying for his attention and love. From a poetry-obsessed police officer Rajpal (Vijay Raaz) to a lovelorn and brahmachari Mahinder (Abhishek Banerjee), his clients are besotted by the charm of Pooja and her voice. But the situation gets tricky when all his clients fall head over heels in love with Pooja.

Raaj Shaandilyaa’s Dream Girl is an out-and-out comedy with huge dollops of witty one-liners and jokes. But it is this very humour that plays the biggest hindrance in the development of the story. Despite an interesting premise, Dream Girl fails to go beyond the basic idea. The 137-minute film seems like a long comic skit sans a storyline.
