The company recorded coal production of 176.2 million tonnes, up 5.26% over the previous year, while offtake stood at 178.6 million tonnes, registering a 4.6% increase. Overburden removal reached a record 364.3 million cubic metres, reflecting strong operational performance.

The company also reported significant improvements in logistics and infrastructure, with rail despatch rising by 16% and First Mile Connectivity despatch growing by 28%. SECL achieved notable progress in land acquisition and capacity expansion, alongside advancements in digital monitoring through initiatives like DigiCOAL, enhancing transparency and efficiency. Environmental efforts included large-scale plantation, solar capacity addition and effective mine water utilisation.

In addition, SECL strengthened its focus on social responsibility and inclusion, providing employment to dependents and project-affected persons, while also advancing gender inclusion through dedicated initiatives. The company also recorded high procurement through the GeM portal and introduced innovative technologies such as paste fill mining, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and efficient operations.

CMD Shri Harish Duhan said the achievement reflects the dedication and teamwork of the entire workforce despite operational challenges. He emphasised that the growth is not just numerical but a testament to SECL’s commitment to the nation’s energy security, expressing confidence that the company will continue to achieve greater milestones in the future.

NEW DELHI. In a notable acknowledgment of the Coal Ministry’s efforts to modernize and digitize the mining sector, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited under the Ministry of Coal, presented its flagship digital transformation initiative, DigiCOAL, at the National Workshop on “Digital Initiatives for Increasing Transparency in Governance” held at the SCOPE Convention Centre in New Delhi on 11 February 2026. This national platform highlighted the Ministry’s strategic focus on promoting transparency, accountability, and technology-driven reforms in the coal and mining industry. DigiCOAL exemplifies the government’s vision to create a more efficient, data-centric, and digitally integrated mining ecosystem, aligning with the broader goals of transparent governance and responsible resource management.

DigiCOAL is a comprehensive digital ecosystem designed to enhance operational oversight and institutional accountability across mining activities through advanced technological integration. Key features include real-time monitoring of heavy earth-moving machinery using sensor-based systems to detect anomalies and improve operational efficiency, video analytics and connected worker systems to enhance safety and operational control, drone-based surveillance for precise mine monitoring and regulation enforcement, data-driven mine planning using analytics for scientific production management, and integrated digital platforms for land records, training, spare parts management, and centralized decision-making. The recognition of DigiCOAL at the national workshop underscores how policy guidance from the Ministry of Coal, combined with technological adoption at the operational level, is transforming the mining sector into a more transparent, efficient, and future-ready industry committed to sustainable development and responsible energy production.
