Digi Yatra Crosses 10 Crore Seamless Journeys, Transforming Air Travel in India

NEW DELHI. Digi Yatra has achieved a major milestone by enabling over 10 crore seamless journeys across Indian airports, prompting Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu to congratulate the Digi Yatra team for driving paperless, contactless and hassle-free travel. The Minister said the achievement reflects growing passenger trust in digital aviation services and comes amid a sharp rise in air travel, with daily domestic passenger traffic increasing from below two lakh in 2014 to over five lakh on several occasions in recent years. He noted that annual passenger traffic is expected to reach 50 crore by 2030 and nearly 100 crore by 2040, supported by digital solutions such as Digi Yatra, self-baggage drop facilities, AI-powered digital twins and improved grievance redressal systems. Currently operational at 38 airports, Digi Yatra will be expanded to 27 more airports next year.

According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the platform has recorded over 2.4 crore downloads and reduced average airport entry processing time from 15 seconds to just 5 seconds per passenger. By eliminating manual document verification and reducing paper usage through digital boarding processes, Digi Yatra has emerged as one of the most successful digital innovations in global aviation while also contributing to environmental sustainability.

केंद्रीय नागर विमानन एवं सहकारिता राज्य मंत्री श्री मुरलीधर मोहोल द्वारा भाविप्रा के पुणे हवाई अड्डे पर डिजी यात्रा सुविधा का उद्घाटन किया गया। डिजी यात्रा फेस रिकग्निशन तकनीक पर आधारित है, जिससे यात्री बिना फिजिकल डॉक्यूमेंट दिखाए हवाई अड्डे पर चेक-इन, सुरक्षा जांच और बोर्डिंग प्रक्रियाओं को पूरा कर सकता है। इस पहल से यात्रियों को तीव्र, सरल और पेपरलेस यात्रा का लाभ मिलेगा।

A total of 60 New RCS routes commenced w.e.f 01 January, 2023 to 21 December, 2023, the Ministry said. India has a total fleet of 626 passenger aircrafts. 164 are grounded. (26%).

A total of 6 Airports Rourkela, Hollongi, Jamshedpur, Cooch Behar, Utkela & Shivamogga operationalized,three Greenfield airports, namely, Mopa, Shivammogga and Rajkot have been operationalized.

Over 91 lakh passengers availed the facility of Digi Yatra and more than 35 lakh users downloaded the app.

Indian airlines are projected to experience a significant reduction in net losses, estimated at around Rs 5,000-7,000 crore for the current fiscal year, owing to robust growth in passenger traffic and improved revenue streams, as reported by credit rating agency ICRA on Thursday. According to ICRA, domestic air passenger traffic soared by 26 percent to approximately 1.22 crore passengers in July, compared to 97 lakh passengers in the same month of the previous year.

Digi Yatra App user registration crosses 1 million mark .

The Civil Aviation Ministry said that the number of passengers who have installed the Digi Yatra app on their mobile phones has touched 1.746 million people since its launch on December 1, 2022. The Digi Yatra was initially launched at three airports, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi in December 2022, which was followed by Vijayawada, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Pune in April 2023.

Digi Yatra was launched to provide a hassle-free travel experience for passengers at airports. Passengers can skip the long security queues if they have shared their details with the app.

The ministry said that 866,000 Android users, while 154,000 iOS users downloaded and used the app since its launch.

The number of passengers has crossed one million this week. Since its inauguration on 1st December 2022, 1.746 million people have used this facility.
