NEW DELHI. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has established a 24×7 Passenger Assistance Control Room (PACR) to address passenger grievances and operational issues in real time. The control room brings together officials from the Ministry, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), airlines and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to ensure coordinated and prompt responses. The PACR continuously monitors flight operations, handles passenger calls and facilitates immediate assistance during disruptions.

The facility became operational on December 10 following recent operational issues faced by IndiGo. It also aims to support passengers during flight delays and disruptions caused by fog and other adverse conditions. The initiative is expected to improve passenger experience and strengthen coordination among aviation stakeholders.

NEW DELHI. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has taken action in 19 cases of safety-related violations by airlines so far in 2025, the government informed Parliament. In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said enforcement against non-compliance by scheduled airlines has steadily increased in recent years, rising from two cases in 2021 to 22 cases in 2024, reflecting tighter regulatory oversight. The actions include financial penalties, suspension of approvals or authorisations, and issuance of warnings.

The violations covered a wide range of safety lapses, including breaches of breath analyser norms for crew, failures in flight data monitoring, unauthorised cockpit access, use of simulators without DGCA approval, deployment of inadequately trained crew, and violations of flight duty time limitations. Maintenance-related deficiencies, such as procedural lapses and operation of aircraft with expired emergency equipment, were also noted. The Minister said the government has allocated dedicated funds to strengthen DGCA’s safety oversight and shared details of staffing vacancies across key aviation bodies, including DGCA, AAI, BCAS and air traffic control services, to address regulatory and safety challenges.

New Delhi: In a decisive step to strengthen drone governance and ensure compliance with national security regulations, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated action against misleading drone registrations on its Digital Sky platform. Investigations have uncovered that over 8,700 Chinese drones were wrongly classified under the “Model RPAS” category, which is meant exclusively for research, testing, or recreation. Many of these drones entered India without mandatory import authorisation from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), in violation of the 2021 ban on drone imports. To address these irregularities, DGCA has begun proceedings to suspend or cancel the Unique Identification Numbers (UINs) of such drones.

Drone owners have been given one month from 12 August 2025 to provide written explanations supported by invoices, DGFT permits, images, and certifications. The DGCA has also cautioned that operating a drone with a suspended or cancelled UIN is strictly prohibited and may attract penal action under the Drone Rules, 2021 and the Aircraft Act, 1934. This initiative reflects the government’s strong resolve to eliminate misleading entries, safeguard Indian airspace, and ensure responsible use of drone technology.
