New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Government of Madhya Pradesh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish India’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior, marking a major step towards strengthening domestic telecom manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The project aims to create a world-class ecosystem for telecom equipment and allied technologies, attract investments, generate employment, boost regional industrial growth and enhance India’s position as a global telecom manufacturing hub. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia described the initiative as a significant milestone aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’, while Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said it would transform Madhya Pradesh into a key centre for advanced manufacturing, technology and exports. Minister of State for Communications Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani and senior officials from the Centre, the state government and the telecom industry were also present at the MoU signing ceremony.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced that over 50,000 lost and stolen mobile phones were recovered nationwide in October through its digital safety platform, Sanchar Saathi—the highest monthly recovery so far. With this, total recoveries have crossed 7 lakh. Karnataka and Telangana led with over one lakh recoveries each, followed by Maharashtra with more than 80,000. DoT credited the platform’s automated workflows and real-time traceability for the surge. Strong coordination with state police and the DIU has further improved recovery efforts. Citizens are encouraged to use the Sanchar Saathi app to report or verify devices.
