Among the key initiatives is “Ask CHETNA” (Chatbot for Efficient Travel and Navigation Assistance), a conversational AI platform built on a BharatGPT-powered agentic AI stack with sovereign architecture. The chatbot offers secure, India-hosted services including journey planning, fare information, real-time updates and ticket booking through web and mobile platforms. DMRC is also modernising its Complaint Management System by integrating AI for faster grievance redressal. In the first phase, written complaints are being automated to reduce handling time and improve transparency. In the next phase, an AI-powered voice bot will be deployed on helpline 155370 for real-time complaint registration with provision for human escalation in complex cases.

Additionally, DMRC has introduced AI-based monitoring systems for the health of its Overhead Equipment (OHE) network. The Pantograph Collision Detection System (PCDS), deployed on Red, Yellow and Blue Lines, uses sensors installed on train pantographs to detect wire alignment issues and hard points. AI-based video analytics has also been implemented on the Pink and Magenta Lines to analyse footage captured from trains and automatically identify anomalies. These measures are aimed at ensuring safer, more reliable and technology-driven metro operations in the national capital.

To acknowledge the dedicated efforts that led to DMRC’s three metro stations getting recognition by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). In addition, several employees were honoured with ‘Energy Conservation Excellence Awards’ for achieving significant energy savings through efficient operation and maintenance of systems. Solar developers associated with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for nearly a decade, were also felicitated for their exemplary collaborative efforts to maximise solar power generation and advance DMRC’s commitment to a greener and more sustainable future. M/s Purshotam Rays Power Pvt. Ltd. & Purshotam Green Pvt. Ltd. secured the First Prize for achieving a 19.7% increase in Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF) compared to the previous year, while M/s Azure Power Saturn Pvt. Ltd. secured the Second Prize for recording a 12.12% improvement in CUF over the same period. This was achieved through a joint initiative ‘SAHYOG’, launched by DMRC with 14 Solar developers, to check the health of plant and maximise solar generation.

DMRC continues to set benchmarks in sustainable urban mobility by integrating energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy solutions, and employee-driven conservation initiatives, reinforcing its role as a leader in sustainable mass transit.

The award was presented by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan, during the National Energy Conservation Day function and was received by Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC, in recognition of the exemplary efforts in energy-efficiency at East Vinod Nagar Metro Station.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under Ministry of Power, Government of India, selected the station, after a very comprehensive evaluation of the applications received from various metro rail systems, throughout the country.

East Vinod Nagar Metro Station has achieved this recognition through significant and consistent reduction in overall electrical energy consumption kWh & Energy Performance Index (EPI) (kWh/m2year) over the last three financial years, by regular monitoring of energy usage of various equipment and by implementing targeted Energy Conservation Measures, including retrofitting of 405 existing conventional type tube light fixtures of 2 X 28 W with 2 X 14 W LED tube lights. The station has a dedicated rooftop solar plant of 150 kWp, which meets 49% of its total energy requirement, through solar energy, thereby substantially reducing its dependence on electricity from the grid.

The station is also “Platinum” rated under Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) certification from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), reaffirming its strong commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

This NECA award is an acknowledgment of DMRC’s sustained commitment to reducing energy consumption, adopting innovative energy conservation measures and solar power, in turn promoting environmentally responsible urban mobility.

This tunnelling work between the Pulbangash and Sadar Bazar stations was especially challenging, as trains on the busy Red Line above were not halted for even a single day, even as the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) carefully constructed the tunnel below the elevated viaduct on which trains were operational. Moreover, the Red Line viaduct here stands on open foundations with a balanced cantilever span. Tunnelling beneath such a structure required extraordinary engineering precautions to ensure its safety.

A number of measures were taken by DMRC’s engineers to achieve this feat. Some of them are mentioned below:

•          Extensive Ground Strengthening Around the Existing Pier: A detailed strategy was adopted to strengthen the area around the pier of the Red Line. A grouting programme called TAM (Tube-a-Manchette) was implemented. As per this technology, 180 TAM boreholes were arranged around the pier. After that, high-strength cement grouting was done to stabilise the soil, fill the voids and in the process, increase the load-bearing capacity. In addition, it was also ensured that all possibilities of settlement of soil during tunnelling were eliminated.

•          World Class Instrumentation and Real Time Monitoring: Elaborate instrumentation was deployed during the tunnelling work to monitor ground movement, pier behaviour, and building safety on a real-time basis. Some of these equipment were Surface Settlement Markers, Deep Inclinometers, Building Settlement Points, Pier Tilt Meters and Load Cells, Automatic Total Station (ATC).

Specialised personnel were deployed round the clock to monitor the readings of these advanced equipment.  All parameters remained well within permissible limits during the entire operation.

The construction of the downline tunnel on this section has now been completed. Work on the up-line tunnel is in progress with the same level of precautions and monitoring.  This was an extremely critical construction work since the Red Line, on average, carries about seven lakh passengers every day. Any disruption to the movement of trains on this line would have caused tremendous inconvenience to the people.

DMRC clarifies that the number of non-functional CCTVs, reported as 300-500 annually, represents a very small fraction of the total 24,000 cameras operational daily. These figures indicate that on any given day, only one or two cameras may be undergoing maintenance, which does not compromise passenger safety or security. The robust surveillance system ensures effective monitoring with overlapping coverage, and even temporarily non-functional cameras are quickly attended to, maintaining overall safety standards. Additionally, DMRC is progressively replacing older CCTV models with advanced IP-based cameras featuring video analytics, further enhancing security.

To supplement technological measures, DMRC has implemented various security initiatives to protect women commuters. These include prominently displayed helpline numbers such as 1091, 155370, and 155655 for immediate assistance. A dedicated security unit known as the Kali squad, comprising trained female commandos skilled in martial arts, actively responds to security threats, including male intruders in ladies’ coaches. They are equipped to neutralize threats using everyday objects and are deployed on trains and platforms to ensure women’s safety. Overall, DMRC’s comprehensive safety infrastructure and proactive security measures reflect its unwavering commitment to safeguarding its passengers.
