MCA Introduces New Web-Based CSR-1 Form to Strengthen Oversight of CSR Activities

NEW DELHI. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has launched a revamped, web-based Form CSR-1, effective from July 14, 2025, aimed at improving transparency and accountability in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The new form is now mandatory for all entities—including Section 8 companies, registered public trusts, registered societies, and entities created by Acts of Parliament or State Legislatures—that intend to implement CSR activities on behalf of companies. These entities must register with the Central Government through the updated CSR-1 before undertaking any CSR projects mandated under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013.

The new form requires comprehensive entity details, PAN-based verification, OTP-verified email IDs, and digital signatures from authorized personnel. It also mandates professional certification by a practicing CA, CS, or CMA, and proof of registration under Section 12A and approval under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. While entities previously registered under the old CSR-1 format are not required to re-register, all new applicants must now comply with the updated online format. This initiative is expected to enhance corporate due diligence, improve the credibility of implementing agencies, and foster a more transparent and efficient CSR ecosystem in India.
