NEW DELHI. Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO) launched a significant CSR project aimed at transforming the 1,700-acre National Security Guard (NSG) Campus in Manesar into a model of environmental sustainability. Following an MoU signed on January 21, the initiative introduces a modern, integrated system capable of processing 5–7 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily, featuring a 2-tonne biogas plant that will convert organic waste from residential blocks and 52 canteens into cooking fuel. By streamlining door-to-door collection, scientific segregation, and recycling, the project—implemented by Blue Planet Environmental Solutions—is expected to prevent up to 2,000 tonnes of waste from reaching landfills annually, reinforcing HUDCO’s commitment to impactful CSR and the NSG’s role in leading by example through future-ready, eco-friendly infrastructure.

PATNA. In a major step toward boosting corporate contributions to social development, the Bihar government has announced the formation of the Bihar State Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Society under the newly introduced Bihar State CSR Policy–2025. Aimed at making Bihar a frontrunner in the effective utilization of CSR funds, the policy will remain in effect for the next five years.

The policy encourages companies to actively participate in the state’s social and economic progress through well-directed CSR initiatives. To ensure proper implementation and rigorous monitoring, the government has established the Bihar CSR Society as the apex governing body.

The society will be chaired by the Chief Secretary of Bihar, with the Development Commissioner serving as the Vice Chairperson. The Principal Secretary (Finance) will take on the role of Member Secretary. In addition, senior officials from 22 key state departments will be integral members of the society, ensuring cross-sectoral coordination and policy alignment.

To handle operational matters, an Executive Committee will also be constituted under the chairmanship of the Principal Secretary (Finance). This committee will include senior officers—at least at the Joint Secretary level—who are part of the governing body.

As mandated under the Companies Act, any company with a net worth of ₹500 crore or more, an annual turnover of ₹1,000 crore or more, or a net profit of ₹5 crore or more is required to spend a minimum of 2% of their average net profits from the past three financial years on CSR activities.

With the launch of this structured approach, the Bihar government aims to attract significant CSR investments and channel them effectively into key priority areas such as education, healthcare, skill development, infrastructure, and women’s empowerment.

Mr. Bhardwaj brings nearly three decades of rich and diverse industry experience in conceptualising and executing impactful CSR strategies across India and other geographies, with deep expertise in the cement, pharmaceutical and chemical sectors.
