Bengaluru, August 26, 2025:  Mr Anand Mahindra unveiled a coffee table book, ‘May A Million Buds Bloom’, a picture book that documents the transformative impact of Project Nanhi Kali.

Established in 1996 by Mr Anand Mahindra, with a vision to empower young girls with holistic education and help them break the shackles of patriarchy, Project Nanhi Kali has touched the lives of close to nine lakh underprivileged girls across India. From tiny hamlets in rural Maharashtra to tribal settlements perched on the Araku hills of Andhra Pradesh; from far-flung border districts of Darjeeling and Shravasti to the congested by lanes of Varanasi, the project has created robust ecosystems in underserved communities through regular engagements with the girls, their parents and community stakeholders.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, said: “Our endeavour to empower underprivileged girls through academic support, sports, technology and now skill training is a testament of how Project Nanhi Kali has evolved with changing times. The book ‘May A Million Buds Bloom’, through a combination of storytelling and visual art, offers readers a thought provoking and soul stirring glimpse into what change looks like beyond mere numbers.”

Societal transformation and creating gender-neutral attitudes need long-term commitment, which is where Nanhi Kali’s long-term engagement with young girls, their families and communities have helped reshape the ecosystem. Beyond the numbers, this book captures these markers – leisure as a ‘social right’ for the girl child; agency to move, to dream, to aspire. Community Associates have worked as influencers, changing the opinion leaders within the ecosystem sarpanches (village heads), fathers, and grandmothers and greater exposure to the world. Interspersed with anecdotes and bytes from Nanhi Kalis themselves, the book is a collage of imagery – some visual, some oral – all showcasing the lasting impact of the programme.

The book is authored by Nitya Manoj Kumar, a student and passionate photographer. Over three summers, Nitya travelled to and with Nanhi Kalis all over the country, joined them in their classrooms, on the playground, at their homes, at the village square, on public transport, striving to capture the true impact of Project Nanhi Kali on these girls.  Nitya started her work on this book with the conviction that the true impact of Project Nanhi Kali lies in these intangible seeds of transformation – which cannot be counted, touched or measured, but only felt, and experienced.

Well into its third decade, Project Nanhi Kali has evolved from providing after school academic support through personalised adaptive learning platforms to 21st century skills training. The project boasts of an all women army of Skills Associates who serve as role models and are mentors to the girls.

In recent years, a professionally designed sports curriculum was integrated giving the girls an opportunity to participate in fitness activities and team sports leading to the annual athletics and football tournament Toofaan Games & Toofaan Cup respectively.  With over 150,000 girls participating in the Toofaan Games athletics events, and 1000 football teams on the ground, Project Nanhi Kali is easily the largest active girls’ club in India today.

Starting academic year 2024-25, the project embarked on a new journey – Nanhi Kali 3.0,
in line with National Education Policy 2020. This empowers girls from lower income strata studying in secondary government schools with 21^st century skills such as financial, digital literacy and life skills, making the transition from school to the workplace seamless.

Patna, December 14, 2023: The Bihar Business Connect 2023 event was a huge success in terms of investment perspective in the state. The Bihar Business Connect Global Summit was successfully organized, marking a significant milestone in the state’s economic development. In a landmark achievement, 300 companies have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) for investments totaling 50,530 crore rupees, showcasing Bihar’s growing attractiveness as a key business destination. On the second day of the conference, the Bihar government and various companies from within the country and abroad signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). This will prove to be a milestone in the industrial development of Bihar. For the industrial development of Bihar, an investors’ summit of this magnitude was organized for the first time. This mega event was held at Gyan Bhavan in Patna.

On the second day of the investors’ summit, Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Coffee Table Book of the Industry Department. Afterwards, he honored the investing entrepreneurs by draping them with shawls and presenting mementos. Then, the Chief Minister descended from the stage to meet all the attending entrepreneurs in the auditorium. He assured the entrepreneurs that the Bihar government will provide all kinds of assistance and facilities.

On this occasion, Industry Minister Mr. Sameer Kumar Mahaseth said that Bihar is progressing. If three more things are added, the development of the state will quadruple. The rains in Nepal cause much destruction in Bihar. If an agreement on water management with Nepal is reached, Bihar can be saved from the disaster of floods. If Bihar gets the status of a special state, its industrial development will accelerate further. The third important point is that if Bihar is included in the Special Economic Zone, its economic development will further increase. Investors are welcome in Bihar. Bihar is famous for its hospitality. Bihar is the youngest state in the country, with 53% of its population under 35 years of age. Bihar has made rapid progress in electricity, water, and roads, making it an ideal destination for investment. 12 departments of the state are coordinating to support entrepreneurs. The state already has 3000 acres of land available for industry. The government is also attempting to create a land bank of another 3000 acres so that there is no shortage of land for entrepreneurs. Bihar Business Connect 2023 will prove to be a milestone in industrial development.

On this occasion, Mr. Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Honorable Minister of Finance, Commercial Taxes, and Mr. Sanjay Kumar Jha, Minister of Information and Public Relations Department were also present.

The Additional Chief Secretary of the Industry Department, Mr. Sandeep Poundrik, shed light on the state’s economic and industrial development. He said that setting up industries in Bihar is very easy due to the presence of the market, raw materials, infrastructure, workforce, and government support. Additionally, the state government provides attractive subsidies and incentives to entrepreneurs through its various industrial policies.

Mr. Poundrik said, “We hope that this Bihar Business Connect- Global Investors Summit will be organized in 2024 as well. Next year, we will welcome all of you again with new investors.”

Mr. Pranav Adani, Director of Adani Enterprises, said that when Nitish Kumar was the Railway Minister, he introduced internet-based railway ticket booking in 2003. Today, this service is the busiest rail ticket booking system in the world. Today, Nitish Ji is working with the vision of leading Bihar forward. Adani Group supports this vision of Bihar. Adani Group has already invested ₹850 Crore in Bihar and now plans to increase this investment tenfold to more than ₹8000 Crore. The group is also starting a cement industry in Bihar.

Mr. Kamal Oswal, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Nahar Group of Industries, said that his group is building a logistic park in Bihar at a cost of ₹300 Crore.

Mr. Hasmukh Ranjan, Chief Information Officer of AMD, said that IT will become a premium industry in Bihar because the environment here is suitable. Three things are required for the IT sector: talent, infrastructure, and willpower. All three are abundantly available in Bihar. The talent of Bihar is making a name for itself in the country and the world. The scenario of the IT sector in Bihar will now change. Mr. Mahesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Tiger Analytics, expressed his views on the expansion of the IT industry in Bihar. Additionally, Mr. Rajesh Agrawal, Chief Operating Officer of Micromax Biofuels, and Dr. Dilip Kumar, founder of Patel Agri Industries, also expressed their thoughts.

Representatives from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Adani Group, Holtec International, Patel Agri Industries Private Limited, Dave India Project, Indo-European Heart Hospitals and Research Institute Private Limited, and IT company CTRL were present at the summit.

Bihar Business Connect 2023 will prove helpful in globalizing the industrial landscape of the state.
