In an effort to address the concerns of local landowners and villagers, the administration emphasized the completion of land acquisition and disbursed over Rs 10 crore in compensation to Project Affected Persons (PAPs). Authorities have also promised employment opportunities and community development initiatives to foster better relations and prevent future disputes. These measures aim to ensure that local residents benefit from the project and feel involved in the ongoing development process.

SECL’s Public Relations Officer, Sanish Chandra, highlighted the company’s commitment to responsible mining and community welfare. He stated, “We have followed all legal protocols and have paid due compensation to landowners. We are dedicated to working with local communities and resolving issues through dialogue. Our priority is to ensure sustainable operations that benefit both the company and the people.”

To maintain law and order, security has been ramped up around the mine site. Continuous engagement with community leaders and local residents is being prioritized to resolve grievances peacefully. SECL officials and the district administration are encouraging villagers to approach authorities through legal channels for their concerns, emphasizing that violence only hampers progress.

The government and SECL remain committed to upholding all legal and environmental standards, including adherence to the Forest Rights Recognition Act and Panchayats Extension Act. These efforts aim to balance economic development with social and ecological responsibilities. The recent resumption of operations marks a significant step forward in regional development, with authorities optimistic about long-term stability and growth.

Similarly, coal dispatch has also demonstrated remarkable progress, The cumulative coal dispatch in FY 2024-25 has also exceeded the One BT milestone, reaching 1024.99MT (Provisional), as compared to 973.01 MT in FY 2023-24, reflecting a significant increase of 5.34%. Dispatch from Commercial, Captive, and other entities also witnessed a significant rise, reaching 196.83MT (provisional), with a growth of 31.39% compared to the corresponding period of previous year which was recorded at 149.81 MT.

For the fiscal year through October 2024, cumulative coal production rose to 537.45 MT, up from 506.56 MT during the same period in FY 2023-24, achieving a growth rate of 6.10%.

Coal dispatches also posted notable gains in October 2024, totaling 82.89 MT—a 4.60% increase over the 79.25 MT dispatched in October 2023. Dispatches from captive mines and other sources rose significantly to 16.18 MT, up from 11.83 MT in October 2023, indicating a growth rate of 36.83%. Cumulatively, coal dispatches for FY 2024-25 (up to October) reached 571.39 MT, marking a 5.52% increase from the 541.51 MT recorded in the same period of FY 2023-24.

In a statement yesterday, the company said, it achieved an impressive coal production of 8.48 million metric tonnes (MMT) during Q1 of FY24, compared to 4.27 MMT in Q1 of FY23.

In addition, coal despatch has more than doubled during Q1 of 2023 – 2024, relative to the first quarter of 2022 – 2023.

A total of 8.82 MMT of coal has been despatched in Q1 of FY24, marking a significant 112 per cent increase over the previous year for the same period, the statement said.
