NEW DELHI. India has recorded coal production of 210.46 Million Tonnes (MT) from captive and commercial mines in FY 2025-26, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 10.22% over the previous fiscal. Dispatches also witnessed a strong uptick, touching 204.61 MT and marking a 7.35% increase compared to fiscal year 2024-25. The Coal Ministry said that the figures reflect improved operational efficiency, strengthened logistics, and the sector’s growing capacity to meet the nation’s rising energy demand. It said twelve captive and commercial coal blocks were operationalized through the grant of Mine Opening Permission in FY 2025-26, expanding the operational coal mining base by adding more than 86 MT of annual production capacity. It added that seven blocks commenced coal production within the same financial year, demonstrating faster project execution and improved regulatory coordination. The Ministry said the achievement is a strong reflection of India’s commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat, driven by focused policy interventions, streamlined approvals, and a renewed thrust on enhancing domestic coal production.
